In partnership with CleanMax, a renewable energy developer, Apple will expand its renewable energy investments in India

Apple announced a ₹100 crore investment in India to build renewable capacity and scale energy across its supply chain, as per a blog post on Thursday.

In partnership with CleanMax, a renewable energy developer, Apple will expand its renewable energy investments in India. The ₹100 crore is an initial investment to support the development of over 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity. This can power an average of 150,000 Indian households each year. The company may expand capacity in coming years.

Apple previously worked with CleanMax to build rooftop solar projects to power Apple’s offices and retail stores in India with 100 per cent renewable energy.

Further, the new initiatives drive toward Apple’s goal to be carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030, as per the post.

“We’re proud to expand our efforts to invest in India’s clean energy economy and protect the country’s precious natural resources,” said Sarah Chandler, Apple’s vice president of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation.

In its latest quarterly report, Apple Inc noted a double-digit revenue growth in India with Tim Cook, Apple CEO, stating he was “over-the-moon excited” about the country. Last month, Apple released its Environmental Progress Report, which said Apple reduced its global greenhouse gas emissions by over 60 per cent compared to 2015 levels.
