Telecom services provider, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) on Friday said that it has no plan to go for an across-the-board hike in mobile tariff and may opt for only minor corrections in the existing rates.
“Minor corrections will be there but not a structural hike as you generally see... Ongoing minor tariff corrections driven by current market conditions,” Abhijit Kishore, Chief Executive Officer, Vi said here on the sidelines of the Cellular Operators Association of India DigiCom Summit 2026.
Historical Trends
Recently, Bharti Airtel has increased prepaid mobile recharge plans by around 4-5 per cent and analysts have projected that telecom operators may raise tariff by about 15 per cent by June this year, two years after the last major adjustments, a timeline that aligns with historical industry trends.
Analysts have said that recharge price hike and strategic pricing adjustments are expected to accelerate sector revenue growth to 16 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in FY27, a significant jump from the estimated 7 per cent YoY growth for FY26.
Meanwhile, Kishore said that the government has shown confidence in the company as a significant shareholder and the company is focussing on improving performance.
Subscriber Addition
“The government is a 49 per cent stakeholder and we really value that. We are working towards what we should be doing, which is basically improving the performance, which is what you see on the subscriber initiative. We have reported earlier in the month of February-March, which is out in the public domain,” he added.
After recording a decline in subscriber base in the last few years, Vi has shown improvement in subscriber addition for two consecutive months – in February and March this year. The company has added over one-lakh mobile subscribers in March, according to the latest monthly report by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Reliance Jio has not announced any price hike in its tariff plans yet.
