Mobility platform Namma Yatri is set to launch operations at Kempegowda International Airport, according to a source close to the development, marking its entry into a tightly regulated and high-demand airport mobility segment.
The development comes shortly after Rapido announced its airport foray, pointing to growing interest from new-age mobility platforms in premium transit hubs where ride volumes and ticket sizes are typically higher.
At present, the airport cab ecosystem includes aggregators such as Ola and Uber, along with Quick Ride, OHM Mobility and the airport’s licensed taxi fleet.
According to the source, Namma Yatri is expected to follow a hybrid operating model at the airport, working with a mix of onboarded fleet partners as well as its existing open network of driver partners. “This approach is aimed at ensuring adequate availability at the airport while also allowing drivers on the platform to access airport trips in a more structured and predictable manner,” the person said.
Greater predictability
The company is likely to position itself on the promise of greater predictability for users, particularly around pricing and wait times, which have often been pain points in airport travel, the source said. Upfront pricing, relatively affordable fares and designated pick-up zones are expected to be part of the offering, with a focus on improving coordination between riders and drivers on the ground.
Importantly, the person cited above said the company is not looking to aggressively scale its airport operations in the initial phase. “The immediate focus is on building a reliable and well-functioning experience at the airport rather than chasing aggressive scale,” the source said.
Growth over the next few months is expected to be guided by demand patterns, driver partner availability and operational learnings from the rollout, the person added. “The priority is to ensure consistency and operational efficiency before expanding further,” the source said.
Namma Yatri’s entry is likely to further intensify competition at Bengaluru airport, where operators are increasingly competing on pricing transparency, availability and service reliability.
