Newly-appointed full-time member of the Niti Aayog Gobardhan Das on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said every struggle the scientist faced only strengthened his commitment to serve society and make it free from suffering.
On April 24, the government reconstituted the Niti Aayog, appointing former chief economic advisor Ashok Kumar Lahiri as vice chairman and five full-time members, including Das.
"Met Prof. Gobardhan Das Ji this morning. His personal life journey is very inspiring. Every struggle he faced only strengthened his commitment to serve society and make it free from suffering. This has been reflected in his contribution to public health and immunology. His rich work and scholarship will enrich our policy-making architecture," Modi said in a post on X.
Das reciprocated by saying that he promised to work with honesty, dedication, and complete responsibility to realise the prime minister's dream of a developed India.
"It is only under the leadership of our country's illustrious Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji that it has been possible to embrace the son of a backward, exploited farmer and bestow this honour upon him.
"Today, it is a matter of pride for every citizen of Bengal that a simple person like me has been given the opportunity to serve as a member of NITI Aayog. With your blessings, the entire Bengal is feeling immensely proud. For this, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, I am deeply grateful to you," he said in a post on X in Hindi.
