With various policies on the anvil, including the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) policy and schemes in other States, ride-hailing company Uber’s Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi is on a five-day visit to India, and met senior Cabinet Ministers on Tuesday to discuss the roadmap ahead.
He met the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and others to discuss strategic investments and platform growth, sources said. He will also go to Bengaluru and Hyderabad where the company has tech centres.
“When we last met in 2022, we made a promise. I’m proud to share we’ve kept it — the number of earners on Uber’s platform in India has quadrupled since we last met. We had a rich conversation about Uber’s strategic investment roadmap for India and how platforms like ours can be genuine partners in the journey toward #ViksitBharat2047,” said Khosrowshahi in post on X after meeting the Finance Minister.
Uber holds a strong market in India, with around 50 per cent share as of early 2026 in the ride-hailing segment, and is growing in double digits. The company is particularly strong in the premium and airport segments. Meanwhile, Pralhad Joshi said it was strongly emphasised that Uber India create an ecosystem to transition its existing fleet to EVs while building a support system for partners and drivers who are on board.
“It was also communicated that self-auditing report on the existence of dark patterns and action taken report on such patterns need to be submitted at the earliest. As a convergence partner, Uber was advised to publish details of its Grievance Redressal Officer at the earliest and work towards timely resolution of complaints received on the National Consumer Helpline portal,” he added.
Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who also met the Uber chief, said it was a forward-looking discussion focused on enhancing the air travel experience through better and more convenient last-mile connectivity for passengers.
