Continuing with its crackdown on misleading labels and claims, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued notices to more several food business operators. This has been done for violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 regarding misleading brand names, trade names, and product claims, labelling violations and other consumer complaints, it said in a statement.

Pluckk has been issued a notice for its “no added on Mango Fruit Juice. Raw Pressery’s Alphonso Mango Drink is also under the scanner for “contains naturally occurring sugars” despite the presence of fructose as an added sugar and also for non compliance with labelling requirements. In the case of a brand Natural, the regulatory has said that for its paneer product the company is in violation for the provisions related to the term “Natural.” In a notice sent to Gaur Healthy Foods for its “Silken Tofu” product, FSSAI has raised objection to claims of 100 per cent veg, rich in mineral and anti-cancer properties. 

The regulator said MasterChow’s claims of “100 per cent Natural” and “freshly made” for Ramen Noodles is misleading and non-complaint. For chocolate major Ferrero, FSSAI has said that front of the pack claim of “rich in milk solids” on Kinder Joy Coated Water Biscuits with Cocoa Spreads is misleading as ingredient composition does not substantiate the claim. Medizen Labs’s Whey is under the scanner for misleading claim of being pure and healthy, non substantiated claims of  easy digest and rapid recovery. The regulator has also pulled up Marico for its use of claim “heart pro”and heart device imagery on labels of Total Heart Pro-Multi Source Cooking Oil and said that it appears to extend beyond nutrient-specific claims permitted in the regulations. 

Other firms which have been sent notices for misleading claims includes Orville for its Buransh Squash and Nexa Industries for alkaline water. 

FSSAI has directed the companies to take corrective measures.

In a separate matter, FSSAI has issued a notice to Bikanervala after an alleged social media complaint that a staff member was consuming food inside the service and kitchen area . It has asked the company to furnish details of investigation conducted and corrective measures taken.

FSSAI has also issued notice to Param Dairy on alleged fungal contamination in Dahi and Rabri supplied through IRCTC catering.
