India’s electronics imports surge 18% to $116 billion, exports lag behind
While exports grew 24.7% to $48 billion, driven largely by smartphone shipments, they remained significantly lower than imports, underscoring a widening trade gap despite ongoing domestic manufacturing efforts
India’s electronics imports crossed $100 billion in FY26, rising 17.76% to $116.17 billion, highlighting continued dependence on imported components and semiconductors.
The country's electronics imports have crossed the USD 100 billion mark in 2025-26, according to the Commerce Ministry data.
It grew by 17.76 per cent to USD 116.17 billion in 2025-26 against USD 98.65 billion in the preceding fiscal.
Commenting on the data, think tank GTRI said India's high electronics imports highlight the country's continued dependence on imported semiconductors, components and electronic equipment despite its manufacturing push.
Electronics exports also climbed 24.7 per cent to USD 48.0 billion, helped by smartphone shipments, but remained far below imports.
