Uber to set up two new technology centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad by the end of 2027, chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said during a town hall at the company’s Bengaluru office on Thursday.

The Bengaluru tech centre will span 1.1 million square feet with seating capacity for 5,000 employees, while the Hyderabad facility will house around 4,600 employees across 901,115 square feet, according to people aware of the matter.

The expansion comes a day after Uber announced a partnership with Adani Group to set up its first data centre in India, signalling the company’s increasing focus on building local infrastructure and engineering capabilities in the country.

Khosrowshahi, who met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman earlier this week in New Delhi, also visited Uber’s Hyderabad office on Wednesday as part of his India trip.

India Focus

At the town hall, Khosrowshahi highlighted India’s growing importance in Uber’s global strategy, particularly in the two-wheeler mobility segment. “Two-wheelers remain an important category for us in India. We are no longer behind in the two-wheeler market. Two years ago, we were not even discussing this category, and now it has become a key market,” he said.

The two-wheeler business has emerged as one of Uber India’s fastest-growing categories despite ongoing regulatory challenges across states. The company has been expanding deeper into the segment through mobility and logistics offerings.

Last December, Uber launched a business-to-business logistics network on the Open Network for Digital Commerce platform, strengthening its presence in the two-wheeler ecosystem.

The company has also been stepping up investments in India amid rising competition from rivals such as Rapido. In February, Uber infused nearly $330 million into its India unit to support growth and expansion plans.
