Key candidates in the fray include Stalin from Kolathur (Chennai), Palaniswami from Edappadi, Vijay contesting from Perambur (Chennai) and Tiruchirappalli (East), Seeman from Karaikudi, and Udhayanidhi Stalin from Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni (Chennai).
Several prominent political leaders and film personalities were among the early voters who turned up at polling booths across the state.
