US-based consulting firm Evolution Cloud Services’ (EVOCS) India arm Velloe deployed ₹100 crore towards the country’s digital infrastructure, projecting strong opportunity in the region owing to strong data sovereignty sentiment.
As per company officials in conversation with businessline, the inclination for sovereignty makes sense in India considering it consumes around 30 per cent of the world’s data but hosts only three per cent of it.
“We’re seeing local private investors within India recognise sovereignty as important and a big motivating factor to bring in money and use it to build out the infrastructure. We have the skill and expertise and recognise the rationality behind building sovereign data centres and we’re here to help,” said Thomas Marcin, CEO of Velloe, EVOCS’s Indian brand.
Marcin added that the sentiment is unique to India and a few other nations who are concerned about the location of their data and have to leverage other infrastructure around the world. Meanwhile, larger global giants in the ecosystem shy away from the sovereign push where each country has unique requirements for data management.
“Our business growth is also because of sovereignty particularly in the public sector where they want to keep data soveriegnty. So, they need more data centres. That is good biz scalability but requirement of energy, water and other resources need to be kept in mind,” said Arvind Sharma, President at Velloe.
In line with the company’s focus on skilling, the ₹100 crore investment will go towards building a sophisticated talent pool in India that can cater to the growing data centre market, starting with the infrastructure layer, the platform layer and the app layer. Yogesh Sahu, Chief Product and Business Officer at EVOCS, estimated the Indian workforce to grow from the current 250 personnel to 500 individuals by next year with deep expertise in their respective field, having at least 5 to 10 year of experience.
With one Centre of Excellence and office already launched in Noida, Sahu expected the business to generate a revenue of around ₹25-30 crore this year to ₹100 crore next year.
“Next year we will touch ₹100 crore in revenue for sure and maybe we can target ₹1,000 crore over the next three years,” said Sahu.
