The employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) commenced an indefinite strike from today. Bus services across the State have been disrupted, leaving scores of passengers stranded at bus stations.
The employees have been demanding a merger of TGRTC with the State Government, an increase in pay scales, and other measures.
Though the state transport minister, P Prabhakar, had a dialogue with representatives of employees last week, an agreement could not be reached,, which led the workers to declare a strike from today.
In the meanwhile, State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said a committee was formed to look into the demands for merger with the Government and recognition to the employees union and its elections were pending to be reviewed by the committee. The employees should call of the strike and join duty, the minister said adding that government was ready to look into other demands of the employees.
