Tamil Nadu CM Joseph Vijay on Monday conducted a review meeting to take stock of the finances and electricity demand and supply situation of the Tamil Nadu Energy Department, at the Secretariat.

Among other key issues taken up, the CM is said to have enquired about the implementation of the new scheme signed off by him as one of his first government orders immediately upon assuming office a statement from the Government noted. This involves a proposal to provide 200 units of free electricity to all domestic connections with a consumption limit of up to 500 units, which has been brought into effect as of May 10.

ongoing project works

He also took stock of the various ongoing project works including the establishment of new thermal power stations, the modernization of existing power infrastructure, the laying of new transmission lines, and the implementation of a “Green Corridor” initiative to better tap into the solar and wind energy generated in the southern districts.

He reviewed the financial condition of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and related entities, and also urged the Board to prioritize and implement measures to identify the root causes of, and find solutions for, day-to-day consumer-related grievances, including issues such as low voltage.

The TNEB authorities are said to have explained how they successfully distributed the State’s peak power demand of 21,326 Megawatts without any interruptions recently, and also briefed the CM on the current status of power generation and the ongoing initiatives being undertaken to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

Minister for Electricity and Prohibition, R Nirmal Kumar; Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman of TNEB Dr. S Radhakrishnan, and Additional Chief Secretary to the Finance Department, MA Siddique were among the senior government officials who participated in the meeting.
