Steep increase in global raw material prices has forced fertilizer major FACT to hike the prices of its products, including its flagship product Factamfos.
As per the revised rates, the price of NP 20:20:0:13 (Factamfos) has been increased to Rs2,100 per bag from Rs1,750 earlier. However, stocks already available in godowns under the old pricing will continue to be sold at Rs1,750 per bag.
The company in a statement said the sharp escalation in the prices of key raw materials has significantly raised production costs, making operations unviable without a price revision.
According to FACT, ammonia prices — a major input for fertilizer production — surged from $490-560 per tonne during the first week of March to $870-930 per tonne by the third week of May. Sulphur prices also almost doubled from $513-515 per tonne to $990-1,000 per tonne during the period. Similarly, sulphuric acid prices rose sharply to $375-385 per tonne from $178-185 per tonne recorded in early March.
Supply gaps
Despite the mounting cost pressures, the company said it remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted fertilizer supply to farmers at reasonable prices. FACT said it is actively sourcing raw materials from all available global suppliers to sustain production and is also importing finished fertilizer products to bridge supply gaps.
The company added that, as part of a consortium, it is in the process of finalizing additional imports of DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate). Steps are also under way to import ammonium sulphate and supply it to farmers as an alternative fertilizer at affordable rates.
Meanwhile, FACT has commenced production and supply of DAP fertilizer, which contains 18 per cent nitrogen and 46 per cent phosphorus — two key nutrients essential for crop growth. The company said the fertilizer is suitable for all crops and is currently available in the market at Rs1,350 per bag.
