





















Lower base effect of previous year and demand created by reduced goods and services tax (GST), the domestic automobile wholesales across categories grew by 17.3 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) to 24,11,783 units in May against 20,55,714 units in the corresponding month last year.
The total domestic passenger vehicle wholesales (dispatches to dealers) grew by 27.3 per cent y-o-y to 4,38,854 units in May as compared with 3,44,656 units in May 2025, the monthly sales data shared by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said on Monday.
The two-wheeler dispatches also grew by 14.8 per cent y-o-y to 19,02,209 units during last month as compared with 16,57,116 units in May 2025. In the motorcycles segment, the dispatches grew by 7.2 per cent y-o-y to 11,13,973 units in May as against 10,39,156 units in the same month last year.
The total scooters sales grew by 27.4 per cent y-o-y to 7,39,667 units during the month as compared with 5,80,696 units in the corresponding month of 2025, the SIAM data showed.
The total three-wheelers dispatches also grew by 31 per cent y-o-y to 70,720 units during last month as compared with 53,942 units in May 2025.
“Passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers recorded highest ever sales of May in 2026, with high double-digit growth in each segment. Lower base effect of previous May and demand created due to reduced GST rates, with easier financing, is again getting reflected in higher off-take this month,” Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said.
In terms of exports also, the month recorded one of the best months with a growth of 30.6 per cent y-o-y to 6,25,731 units as compared with 4,79,538 units of exports in May 2025.
The two-wheeler exports grew by 31.3 per cent y-o-y to 5,00,075 units in May as compared with 3,80,979 units in May 2025. Companies like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company and Hero MotoCorp had reported good set of export numbers during the month.
The exports of passenger vehicles grew by 13.2 per cent y-o-y to 76,051 units in May as against 67,181 units in May 2025.
Total three-wheeler exports also recorded growth of 56 per cent y-o-y to 48,513 units last month as compared with 31,084 units in May 2025, the SIAM data revealed.
