Delhi-NCR to get its first W, the disruptive modern luxur...

The Capital will soon get its first W hotel, the disruptive modern luxury lifestyle brand of Marriot International. Dharampal Satyapal (DS) Group, the makers of Catch Spices and Pulse candy, are bringing the high-energy hotel brand to Delhi NCR, remodeling a brownfield property near the Indira Gandhi International Airport to the avant garde style of W.

The 200-room hotel in which DS Group is investing an estimated ₹400 crore is scheduled to open in the second half of 2027.  

For DS Group, this investment is one step forward in its ambitious plans to double its hospitality inventory in the next few years. The group which forayed into hospitality 25 years ago by acquiring the Manu Maharani in Nainital (now rebranded to Namah), and has six properties currently, plans to invest ₹1,000 crore to expand its footprint in the sector. Said Mr Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman DS Group, “From our current 900 keys we plan to scale up to 2,000 keys by 2029.” 

As a strategy, he said, “we obviously will look towards quicker to market”, so last mile brownfield projects typically will be in the group’s radar. The upcoming W in Delhi-NCR is conversion of the Uppal’s Orchid, a 5-star hotel on NH8.

According to Rajiv Kumar, the hotel sector is on a growth curve in India and there is a significant demand-supply mismatch in the premium segment. “With approximately 0.27 hotel keys per 1,000 people compared to the global average of 2.2, India’s hotel penetration rate is roughly one-tenth of the global standard.”

He said that W, with its distinctive design-led style and vibe, will bring refreshing differences to the premium hospitality experience in the Capital. For instance, instead of the traditional Food & Beverage focus, W will be led by a Beverage & Food focus, creating iconic bars, including one on the rooftop. This will be only the second W in India — the first being in Goa.

Nathan Andrews, Business Head, Hospitality, DS Group, said, “This project is a significant step for the DS Group as we expand our hospitality footprint with a target of 10–12 hotels by FY29. By bringing the iconic W Hotels brand to Delhi NCR, we are setting a new benchmark for design-led luxury, project in one of India’s most competitive markets. The Aerocity area continues to demonstrate exceptional demand and RevPAR growth, making it the ideal location for a globally recognized brand that combines unmatched connectivity with long-term value for Delhi NCR.”

He said the location, near the upcoming Kiran Nadar Museum and good access from both Delhi and Gurgaon will work to the hotel’s advantage. “It’s a strategic location and we are sure it will become a hub for all party goers from both Delhi and Gurgaon,” he said.

For Marriott, the world’s largest hospitality player, which is on an aggressive expansion spree in India, and racing to set up 500 hotels by 2030, the launch of the W brand to the capital city is important. As Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International said, “The signing of our first W Hotels in Delhi NCR is set to introduce a bold new expression of luxury to this dynamic, high-energy market.” 

DS Group’s existing portfolio includes six operational properties across key markets, including Namah Nainital, Namah Jim Corbett, Radisson Blu Guwahati, Intercontinental Jaipur, Renaissance Bengaluru and Holiday Inn Express, Kolkata.
