The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced a 2 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers, raising it from 58 per cent to 60 per cent with retrospective effect from January 1, 2026.
According to an official release, the DA hike would result in an additional annual expenditure of ₹1,230 crore for the State government.
The government said the necessary funds would be allocated to implement the increase, which would benefit around 60 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners across the State.
The release said the new government led by C Joseph Vijay was committed to implementing various welfare measures for the public and acknowledged the role of government officials and teachers in designing and executing welfare schemes effectively.
