Telangana Government will prepare a comprehensive plan for setting up a large number of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in public-private partnership to cater to the future requirements in view of the increasing number of EVs in the State.
In a review meeting on the status of basic infrastructure for EVs in the State, Chief Secretary to the State Government, K Ramakrishna Rao directed the officials to draw out a strategy to put in place a comprehensive system to make more charging stations accessible to the public in urban and rural areas.
As the use of electric vehicles was accelerating, an extensive charging network was crucial to meet the needs of these growing EV users, the Chief Secretary said. He directed the officials to develop a centralised, real-time dashboard to map and monitor the EV charging infrastructure in the State.
This dashboard would serve as a key tool for planning, monitoring progress and transparency in the establishment of EV centres, Rao added. Naveen Mittal, Special Principal Secretary, Department of Energy said his department was in the process of formulating a policy to make it mandatory to install EV charging points in the basements of apartment buildings. Such a policy would help increase EV usage by providing convenient home charging options to the city, he added.
