A wrong taxiway turn by an Air India aircraft after landing at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday evening triggered a ground incident that briefly disrupted aircraft movements after the plane came onto the path of an IndiGo aircraft preparing for departure, with both aircraft stopping at a safe distance from each other.

Air India aircraft enters IndiGo flight’s taxi path

The incident occurred shortly around 8 pm when Air India flight AI2493 from Mumbai was taxiing to its parking bay after landing at Ahmedabad airport. At the same time, IndiGo flight 6E5160 was taxiing out for departure to Mumbai. Airport sources said the Air India aircraft inadvertently entered the path of the IndiGo aircraft, prompting both planes to halt. The aircraft remained stationary for a short period before the Air India plane was towed away, allowing the IndiGo flight to proceed with its scheduled departure.

“We are aware of an incident where our flight AI2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on 24 June after landing inadvertently took a wrong turn during taxiing. There was no compromise on the safety of passengers and crew. The aircraft was subsequently towed back to the parking bay. The matter has been reported to the regulatory authorities and an investigation initiated,” an Air India spokesperson said.

IndiGo confirms brief delay, says safety not compromised

IndiGo also confirmed the incident, saying its aircraft was briefly delayed while taxiing for departure. “IndiGo flight 6E 5160, scheduled to operate from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on 24 June 2026, was briefly delayed while taxiing out for departure after an aircraft of another airline inadvertently took an incorrect turn and came in the way of our aircraft. Both aircraft came to a halt at a safe distance from each other. The other aircraft was subsequently towed away and our flight departed and landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. In line with established protocols, the relevant authorities were immediately informed. As always, the safety and security of our customers, crew, and aircraft remain our topmost priorities,” an IndiGo spokesperson said.

According to airport sources, the two aircraft stopped well within prescribed safety parameters, and there was no danger to passengers, crew or aircraft. Following the incident, the Air India aircraft was moved to the parking bay with the assistance of a tow vehicle, while the IndiGo flight continued its journey to Mumbai after a brief delay. Airport operations resumed normally after the aircraft were separated and the affected taxiway was cleared.
