The Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched the ‘Circulating Water Tunnel Facility’, an advanced hydrodynamic testing facility, on Monday with CSR funding of ₹4.5 crore from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.
The advanced ocean engineering research facility was inaugurated last Wednesday at IIT Madras’ satellite campus in Thaiyur, near Chennai.
The facility is expected to support experimental studies related to marine vehicles, offshore systems, underwater structures, and fluid dynamics, while also enabling training opportunities for students and researchers working in these disciplines.
Addressing the collaboration with IIT Madras, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilder’s CMD, Capt. Jagmohan said in a statement: “Such collaborations are important in accelerating indigenous capability development and advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the maritime sector.”
