Marathon runners are usually not trained for fast bursts; they are endurance champs that focus on lasting the course. The OnePlus Nord 6 is a bit of both, it’s an endurance runner at one level with a battery that doesn’t give up and a gaming-ready smartphone that’s ready for those high-energy bursts. The Nord 6 is OnePlus’ first major India launch of 2026 and assumes significance as the brand slugs it out in the high-stakes, premium mid-range segment in India.
Most brands have realised that they need to find a niche in this segment and not aim to be everything for everybody. The Nord 6 sets its sights on users seeking a heavy duty performance with a new self-styled moniker — the ‘Flagship-crusher’. A step up of sorts from the 2010s when OnePlus smartphones were positioned as flagship killers. Does the Nord 6 hit the right notes for you?
OnePlus is unabashedly calling the Nord 6, a OnePlus 15 look-alike. One look at the Nord 6 and you will see the striking resemblance of these cousins that are battling in different price segments. The design template of the Nord 6 is a complete overhaul from the Nord 4, that remains one of the best looking OnePlus devices in my book with its all-metal build. The Nord 6 is more like the executive in a boardroom, understated with neatly gelled hair in a sharp outfit that doesn’t scream for attention.
The device is crafted in a durable plastic frame with MIL-STD-810H certification and features a refined glass back. It’s a much better looking phone than its predecessor (The Nord 5) but doesn’t really stand out within the OnePlus line-up. The choice of plastic comes at a time when some of its rivals such as the Nothing 4a Pro are opting for a premium, metal build. The design plays out best in the Holographic Quick Silver colour way with its unique hologram pattern. OnePlus is playing up the durability credentials of this device, it’s IP66, 68, 69 and 69K certified for water and dust protection. OnePlus keeps the heft under 220 gm despite a huge battery and large display. The Nord 6 certainly doesn’t feel bulky in your hand.
The Nord 6’s ‘just like OnePlus 15’ catchphrase also extends to the display. The 6.78-inch 1.5K (2772 x 1272 pixels) Sunburst AMOLED display comes with a 165Hz refresh rate and 450 PPI density. Gamers will appreciate the PC-level 165 FPS graphic smoothness that eases gameplay. I watched Chennai Super Kings notch up their first win of the IPL 2026 season and the colours were quite impressive. The resolution improved as I switched to Netflix where the Nord 6 offers HDR support. The display hits a peak brightness of 3600 nits and is ready for your binge-watch marathons.
The OnePlus Nord 6 walks the talk on the performance front. The same phone that hid behind a sharp suit in the boardroom transforms into a gaming beast after hours. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset. OnePlus tells that the brand’s in-house Secret Sauce algorithm allows users to up their game with PC-level 165GPS gameplay on popular AAA mobile game titles.
The Nord 6 blazed through our tests notching up scores between 6,600 to 6,700 in our Geekbench (multi-core) tests. Multi-tasking is a breeze and gaming is a joy on this device. We tested the top-end 12GB/256GB storage variant, the device also comes in a 8GB/256GB option too. We’re not sure if the global RAM shortage influenced OnePlus’ decision to skip a 512GB storage option that was available on last year’s OnePlus Nord 5.
Battery life is the Nord 6’s strong suit. It’s almost like carrying a power bank in your pocket that can power accessories like your earbuds with 27W reverse charging. The 9000 mAh battery lasted us more than two days with moderate to heavy usage, making it easy to recommend for heavy duty users who cope with battery anxiety. The in-box 80W SUPERVOOC charger powers takes the battery from 1 to 100 per cent in under 90 minutes.
The Nord 6 is propelled by Oxygen OS 16 (built on Android 16) that offers heaps of customisation options and a smooth user experience. OnePlus offers four years of Android OS updates that is in line with industry standards in this price bracket.
If camera performance is your primary purchase driver, you might need to look beyond the OnePlus Nord 6 in this segment where brands such as Google and Vivo have devices with sharper rear cameras. The Nord 6 is no slouch in the camera department and surprised us with its overall performance. Colours were mostly accurate and pleasing with the primary 50MP lens with decent results in lowlight. Not surprisingly, it’s the 8MP ultra-wide lens that didn’t quite measure up. The Nord 6 is certainly geared to snap images and videos that make the cut for your social media feed backed by a bag of AI tools.
If performance, particularly battery life is your biggest consideration, the OnePlus Nord 6 won’t let you down. The Nord 6 is a great showcase for the recent rapid strides we’ve seen in battery tech in the smartphone segment, where brands are switching to silicon-carbon batteries without excessive bulk. The Nord 6 is more than just a gaming phone, it checks key boxes that matter for most average users, especially those who would like to stop lugging power banks around.
