Tamil Nadu government has decided to speed up the execution of rural development schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin and Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan, besides renovating over 5,000 minor irrigation tanks in rural areas.
A decision was taken in this regard at a review meeting, chaired by rural development minister N Anand, who directed authorities concerned to expedite the implementation of various rural housing and infrastructure schemes, specifically targeting districts that are lagging in performance, an official release here said.
The minister also warned of strict departmental action against officials if any complaints of irregularities or delays are received.
During the meeting, the progress of several rural housing initiatives was thoroughly reviewed, which includes Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G), PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) meant for particularly vulnerable tribal groups, state rural housing scheme, Tsunami houses repair scheme, chief minister’s house reconstruction scheme and housing scheme in Sri Lankan Tamil refugee rehabilitation camps.
Additionally, the minister emphasised the need to focus sharply on meeting targets for vital civic and environmental initiatives, including the rehabilitation of 5,000 minor irrigation tanks in rural areas, the MLA Constituency Development Scheme (MLACDS), the Namakku Naame Thittam, the School Infrastructure Development Scheme, the Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and various waste management projects.
