The intensified geo-political tensions in West Asia — specifically the closure of the Strait of Hormuz — have triggered a global fuel crisis. Willie Walsh, the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), has recently issued several warnings regarding Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), primarily focusing on supply chain disruptions and the slow transition to sustainable alternatives.
Walsh warned that even if geo-political tensions ease and the Strait of Hormuz fully re-opens, it could take “months—not weeks” for jet fuel supplies to stabilise.

The Iran war has caused a shortage of Diet Coke in India, where it is sold only in aluminium cans that have run short because of delayed shipments from the Gulf caused by the Iran war.
