The India we dream of cannot be built by policies alone; it must be built through participation” says Sandhya Bawankule
2026-06-18 · via Business News Today: Latest Business News, Finance News

From championing Swachh Bharat initiatives to driving tree plantation campaigns and empowering women through meaningful reforms, Sandhya is proving that public service can create lasting change

At a time when environmental sustainability and civic responsibility have become national priorities, Sandhya Bawankule, Deputy Commissioner of the Panvel Municipal Corporation, is emerging as a dedicated force behind impactful social and environmental initiatives.

A passionate advocate of the Swachh Bharat Mission, Sandhya has consistently worked towards promoting cleanliness, environmental conservation, and public awareness. Through tree plantation drives and community engagement programs, she has encouraged citizens to actively participate in creating cleaner neighborhoods and greener cities.

Before joining the Panvel Municipal Corporation, she served as Registrar at the State Cooperative Appellate Court in Mumbai and later as Registrar in the S Division at Konkan Bhavan, Navi Mumbai. Her exemplary work at Konkan Bhavan earned her a certificate of appreciation from then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, recognizing her commitment and efficiency in public service.

One of her notable contributions was ensuring that the names of women members of Ashirwad Cooperative Housing Society in Mulund were included on housing society share certificates under the Maharashtra Government’s women empowerment initiative.

In 2001, she received the prestigious Sakhi Puraskar from Lokmat for her outstanding contributions to modelling and photography.

“The India we dream of cannot be built by policies alone; it must be built through participation. When citizens come together to keep their surroundings clean and plant trees, they become partners in creating a more sustainable and beautiful future” says Sandhya Bavankule
