The 5th triennial national conference of the All India Bank Pensioners and Retirees Confederation (AIBPARC) will be held at Ernakulam Town Hall on April 28 and 29.
The Confederation leaders said at a press meet that the banking sector remains the only sector where the pension scheme introduced 30 years ago has not undergone any revision. While pension revisions have been implemented in the RBI and Nabard, the Indian Banks’ Association has so far failed to implement similar revisions in public sector banks, scheduled commercial banks and regional rural banks.
They noted that retired bank employees are now compelled to struggle before authorities and in courts to secure their legitimate rights. More than ₹4.5 lakh crore is available in the Pension Trust Fund, accumulated from employees’ contributions, making Pension Revision financially viable without imposing any additional burden on government exchequer.
The two-day conference in Kochi will strongly reflect the protest and resentment of retired bank pensioners against the negative attitude of the IBA and Government authorities towards the long pending genuine demands of bank pensioners and retirees, the leaders said.
K V Acharya, president AIBPARC , Suprita Sarkar, general secretary, AIBPARC G D Nadaf, Advisor AIBPARC, P K Sarkar, advisor AIBPARC, Harvinder Singh, former general secretary AIBOC, Tom Thomas, chairman, reception committee, B. Sreekumar, General Convenor Reception Committee attended the press meet.
The main demands include negotiation rights and operation of grievances redressal machinery at apex level to bank pensioners’ organisations; pension updation/ revision along with periodical wage revision to serving employees; implementation of statutory provisions of bank employees pension regulations: payment of medical Insurance premium by the banks as extended to serving employees; one more option for pension to those who missed to opt for pension as already given in RBI.
