Biman Bangladesh Airlines has placed its largest-ever aircraft order — 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and four 737 MAX planes — to expand and modernise its fleet. The order includes eight 787-10s, Biman’s first order of the largest 787 variant, to serve the high-demand West Asia route; two 787-9s for long-haul service to Europe and North America; and four 737-8s, the airline’s first 737 MAX order, for destinations across West Asia, India and Southeast Asia, says a joint announcement. Biman currently operates 14 Boeing airplanes — 787-9s, 787-8s, 777s and next-generation 737s — on its international networks. The airline will boost passenger and cargo capacity while improving fuel efficiency with the 787-10, which offers the lowest cost per seat of any widebody airplane, the statement says.
Emirates, GE Aerospace ink MRO deal
Emirates has signed an agreement with GE Aerospace for technical and training consultancy to develop piece part component repair capabilities for GE90 and GP 7200 engines. It was signed by Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and COO, and Mohamed Ali, President and CEO, Commercial Engines and Services, GE Aerospace, at the Emirates group headquarters. The deal will support the expansion of the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre, a $300 million investment to scale up infrastructure and capabilities to maintain, repair and overhaul engines in Emirates aircraft. GE Aerospace will provide technical consultancy to Emirates in setting up the piece part component repair line, as well as knowledge transfer for best practices in component repair.
