As part of its nation-wide campaign seeking government accountability for the NEET paper leak incident and the irregularities related to the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, the newly-formed and Gen Z-driven Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) held protests in Hyderabad and Bengaluru on Sunday. Protesters demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad was attended by more than a 1,000 people, including education reformer and activist Sonam Wangchuk, political analyst professor K Nageshwar and CJP’s official spokesperson Vijetha Dahiya.
In response to protesters sloganeering for Wangchuk to be made the new education minister, the activist said his struggle is only against the “injustice” done to students and that he is not interested in securing any position of power.
Hyderabad-based activist Ruchit Kamal presided over the gathering. “The reason we can stand here today and protest is because of the sacrifices made by the people who fought for an independent India. We take inspiration from the martyrs of the Telangana movement,” Kamal said.
The protest at Bengaluru was held amid heavy rain at the Freedom Park and was attended by a few hundred demonstrators.
A few well-known celebrities, including actor Prakash Raj, Kiran Srinivas and wildlife filmmakers Krupakar B S and Senani Hegde, along with environmentalist Nagesh Hegde, extended their support for the protests.
Some Left and Dalit organisations also extended support for the protests.
