The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on early Monday morning conducted searches at three locations in the Valley as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged terror funding linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) organisation.
The searches were carried out in Srinagar and Shopian districts, where investigators seized financial documents and electronic devices suspected to be linked to the activities of JeI and its affiliated trusts and associations, the agency said in a statement.
The raids were conducted in connection with a case registered by the NIA in 2021 relating to the alleged collection and diversion of funds for militant and separatist activities in the region.
According to the agency, its investigation has found that JeI, which was declared an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), was involved in raising funds within India and abroad under the guise of charitable and welfare activities, including education and healthcare programmes.
The NIA alleged that a portion of these funds was diverted to support separatist activities and channelled to banned militant organisations, including the Hizbul Mujahideen, through a network of operatives.
The agency further alleged that the organisation was involved in the radicalisation and recruitment of Kashmiri youth for activities aimed at promoting separatist objectives.
The NIA said investigations in the case were continuing and that the searches were aimed at gathering further evidence and dismantling networks allegedly involved in financing and supporting militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
No arrests were reported during the searches.
JeI was banned by the Central government in 2019 under anti-terror laws.
