With South-west monsoon rains picking up in Karnataka, the IMD on Sunday issued red alerts for the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi for Monday.
According to the India Meteorological Department's Centre here, a red alert will be in force in five districts -- Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga-- on Tuesday.
For Wednesday, a red alert has been sounded for seven districts -- Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Belagavi, Dharwad and Haveri -- the IMD said.
The warnings for the respective districts are applicable for 24 hours from 8.30 am on the specific days, the IMD said in a statement.
A red alert indicates an extremely heavy rainfall of over 20 cm in 24 hours.
