Activision and Infinity Ward have officially revealed the highly anticipated Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. The entry will serve as a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 3, and it will deliver a major leap in the military shooter franchise. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming title.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will release on October 23, 2026. Modern Warfare 4 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and Battle.net). With the recent changes, Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. However, it will be added to Game Pass in the future.

The single-player campaign for Modern Warfare 4 will take players to the highly volatile battlefield of the Korean Peninsula, focusing on a fictional modern-day escalation. Infinity Ward has gotten rid of the cooperative mechanics and will be focusing on a traditional, cinematic single-player experience.
The story, being a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 3, will feature two major perspectives: Private Park and Captain John Price. Private Park is shown to be a rookie South Korean soldier experiencing the brutal reality of a full-scale North Korean invasion in a classic Call of Duty tale.

Players will run into familiar faces like Makarov and Ghost, with the first trailer hinting at Price and Ghost being at odds with each other during the story.
The gunplay in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 seems to be emphasizing precision, with Infinity Ward completely removing the randomized weapon bloom from past Call of Duty entries. Bullets will now follow a predictable path that aligns perfectly with your weapon’s recoil.

Tactical Sprint is still a part of the gameplay loop, but players will now see their character physically slow down as they run out of stamina. Additionally, players can now dive directly into a backward prone position in a move called “Supine Slide.” This will allow you to return fire at oncoming enemies while sliding into low cover.
Infinity Ward is heavily prioritising vertical combat in Modern Warfare 4. Players will be able to climb up poles, jump directly from ladders through windows, and also use a ledge-hang mechanic. Additionally, mantling no longer leaves you vulnerable, as you can keep your weapon up and fire while clearing obstacles.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will launch with a global array of grounded maps that span locations around the world, specifically featuring 12 core maps at launch. These maps will be designed for traditional 6v6 combat, with each core map featuring its custom infil and a visual identity shaped by the single-player campaign. Modern Warfare 4 will also feature dedicated Gunfight maps, providing tight and symmetric arenas for small-team tactical engagements.
The most innovative element of the Modern Warfare 4 map pool is Kill Block, an experimental battleground that will switch up traditional map flow. The arena will automatically reshape itself between rounds, shifting walls, cover pieces, and structural routes. Kill Block can generate more than 500 different layouts at launch, making sure every match has its unique rhythm.
Kill Block will also support expanded Gunfight formats at launch, which include 3v3 and 10v10 experiences. Infinity Ward has also said that it will roll out additional support for Kill Block post-launch.
Progression in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will balance customization with accessibility, allowing you to optimize your gear more quickly. The game will feature a redesigned menu that unifies your Operator, weapons, equipment, and Killstreaks into a single loadout screen.
Weapon attachments will now be shared across entire weapon classes, cutting down on the grind players have to go through. Infinity Ward will also introduce a new automated assistant named Gunny, which can instantly assemble practical close, mid, or long-range blueprints based on your unlocked attachment and playstyle.
Finally, Modern Warfare 4 will also feature something called Apex Attachments, which you can unlock by fully leveling a weapon. These high-tier modifications will drastically change a weapon’s behavior and reshape its combat role.
