I’m Hyped for GTA 6 Too, But the Game Will Never Meet Our...
Bipradeep Biswas · 2026-06-23 · via Beebom

I can’t wait for GTA 6, and most probably you can’t either. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: GTA 6 will never meet our expectations. I’m guessing you’ve already cleared your calendar for launch week. Maybe you have watched both trailers and the GTA 6 cover art an embarrassing number of times. Or, you doomscrolled through the Reddit threads and X posts like a maniac, discussing how a particular Ferris wheel shadow or an NPC showering inside a building affected the realism inside GTA 6.

And honestly, I get it. The hype around GTA 6 is on a different level, surpassing the massive buildup to Marvel Avengers: Endgame or something that matches the legendary hysteria of a new Star Wars film release in the 70s and 80s.

It is the biggest franchise in the gaming industry, and we are getting a brand-new GTA game in over a decade. The hype and buildup feel natural, but something strange has happened along the way. Rockstar has just released the official GTA 6 cover art. But apart from that, they have barely shown us anything apart from the two trailers that are years apart. However, the fans collectively decided to build the rest of the game themselves. The real problem is that some players stopped waiting for GTA 6 and started hoping for a miracle, a technological messiah.

Rockstar Gave Us Breadcrumbs and Fans Made Brownies That Hit a Little Too Hard

Let’s be honest about what we actually know about GTA 6. We’ve seen the cover art, a couple of trailers, some screenshots, announcements, two delays, and an ultimate release date of November 19, 2026. There has not been any extended gameplay showcase, no deep dive into the mechanics, no explanation of how AI would work inside the game, no confirmation about buildings you can enter, an in-game economy, and most importantly, no announcement of a GTA 6 trailer 3.

Rockstar left a vacuum, and the community filled it with a fantasy, further sealing the fact that GTA 6 will never meet expectations. Maybe the studio posts a screenshot of a crowded GTA 6 street, and suddenly players are instantly convinced that every NPC has a fully simulated daily routine. If a new trailer showcases a convenience store, players are discussing economics, fuel systems, grocery shopping, realistic supply chains, and whatnot.

Sometimes even a slight reflection on a window can make players write a 500-word explanation on a Reddit post stating why 70% of the buildings are enterable. There’s a popular post on Reddit where the user says, “I don’t think it is that far-fetched for around 70% of all buildings to be enterable.” At this point, the GTA 6 speculation in itself feels more entertaining than the game itself.

If you have spent a few minutes on Reddit or X recently, you are mostly aware of the GTA 6 hype and fantasy speculations. Players are decoding year-old screenshots and trailers like they’re the next Holmes or Poirot. You will notice people zooming into the GTA 6 map signboards, NPC t-shirts, counting vehicles on the road, analyzing shadows, and using Morse code to learn about a new leak. As a result, conclusions are drawn that would even make some of the greatest conspiracy theorists proud.

The funniest part about all this is that GTA 6 has somehow entered the criticism phase before it has seen the release phase. Even though the official GTA 6 pre-order date along with the cover art are already out, Rockstar refreshed the game’s website the very same day. Players should have been celebrating this. But nope, a group of wild Complainer Connor appears and instantly slips into forensic investigation mode.

Some spark debates over the reflections on the water, while others discuss distant window lighting. A player zoomed into a Ferris wheel in the GTA 6 Vice City skyline and questioned why its reflection was not perfectly visible from half a city away.

Rockstar’s radio silence has frustrated players, but the fantasy world of GTA 6 is out of hand now. And the worst part is that such imaginary buildup can eventually hurt player sentiments and expectations when the game releases, even though we have no GTA 6 delay yet. We don’t know how half the systems work, yet some are talking about refunds right away.

GTA 6 Will Never Be Good Enough, and That’s Entirely Your Fault

Here’s the harsh reality about GTA 6. There’s no doubt the game is going to be incredible, and other AAA titles will have to do something extraordinary to compete against it for the GOTY 2026. The competition is so fierce that the entire industry moved out of the way for GTA 6. Rockstar hasn’t spent more than an entire decade building something mediocre. The attention to detail will surely embarrass the rest of the industry, and the game will have a lasting impression for years to come.

However, the version of GTA 6 that you have been building in your head for years is only possible if there were no budget limitations, no technical restrictions, and no hardware constraints. Even when Rockstar has put such a massive amount of time and effort into offering players an unforgettable experience, it still might not be enough for you.

A new image appears, and people immediately start counting reflections. While a new piece of artwork appears, someone starts measuring the background objects. The GTA 6 cover art reveals a lot, but things start getting weirder when a person focuses on the alligator. Yes, within hours, players started debating whether Rockstar had accurately represented the average number of teeth found in a real-world Florida gator.

I’m not even joking, as you can see it for yourself in the official r/GTA6 subreddit, where some random unemployed redditor has wasted some time counting the number of teeth on an animal in the cover art for an action-adventure game.

I’m Hyped for GTA 6 Too, But the Game Will Never Meet Our Expectations

The replies were even better, as people stated, “Pre-order cancelled“, “Unplayable“, “This is going to be another Cyberpunk.” However, at some point, the satire stopped being distinguishable from genuine criticism for the person who counted the teeth.

The imaginary version of GTA 6 in your head can have a perfect AI, every building in the city is enterable, and entire cities, down to every resident being simulated. The launch week of GTA 6 might be spent by streamers checking whether they can enter every apartment and asking the most unfeasible questions.

“Oh, why don’t NPCs remember me forever?”

“Why isn’t there a fully simulated economy where I can trade stocks inside the game?”

“Why can’t I follow airport passengers for six hours?”

The conversation doesn’t revolve around what Rockstar has achieved, but rather what it has failed to. We’ve loaded so much baggage onto this game that even a masterpiece might struggle to carry it. And that’s exactly why I think GTA 6 will never meet expectations. And when the dust settles, I suspect a lot of players might have learned that no game can have every feature on your wishlist, not even a blockbuster title like GTA 6.
