The Albert Centre Market and Food Centre spans three levels to offer different attractions for locals and tourists. It has a wet market and a dry goods section, and it’s a stone’s thrown away from several art and design centres too!

But come here for the food because it offers awesome Singaporean and international cuisine. Let this guide to the best hawker stalls at Albert Centre be your food compass.

Pondok Makan Indonesia is a Michelin-recommended halal eatery in Albert Centre. It offers a delightful menu specialising in Indonesian hawker food.

Enjoy familiar dishes like mee rebus (yellow noodles in gravy), gado gado (mixed salad), and lontong (steamed rice cakes) as well as the renowned lamb and chicken satay with a deliciously sweet turmeric marinade.

If you love spice, add sambal to give your favourite dish a spicy kick.

Pro-tip: Vegan craving? Try its signature tahu goreng, or cubes of crunchy deep-fried tofu, and add peanut sauce on the side.

Ah Seng Bak Chor Mee

Ah Seng offers budget-friendly bak chor mee (minced meat noodles) starting at S$3, and fishball kway teow (flat rice noodles), priced from S$2.50. The affordable prices aim to cater to a wide customer base (and boy, are our wallets happy about that!).

You’ll notice after several bites that the mee pok (wheat/egg noodles) is cooked to a soft yet springy consistency. The stall offers a proprietary meatball mix of meat and fish that gives a nice texture and bite.

Pro-tip: The S$3 portion (add S$1 for meatballs) already includes assorted meatballs, fish cake, generous noodles, minced meat, and stewed mushrooms!

Be prepared for a wait at Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu, arguably the most popular stall at Albert Centre. It serves hot bowls of yong tau foo (stuffed tofu in broth) to long queues daily.

Despite the clear appearance, the flavourful soup is filled with handmade items. The stall provides fixed choices, including bitter gourd, prawn paste, pork paste, beancurd, and a combination of fish, pork, and a mix of prawn and pork rolls.

Pro-tip: The fixed choices are exclusively available with bee hoon (vermicelli noodles); other carb options like noodles or kway teow are not offered.

Zheng Xing Mei Shi

Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, 9 AM – 2 PM

Save room for dessert at Zheng Xing Mei Shi in Albert Food Centre, known for its expertly prepared Chinese ‘soup’ desserts.

Its limited menu includes green beans with sago (tapioca pearls), bubur teringu (sweet porridge), and bubur pulut hitam (glutinous rice porridge).

For us, the standout is tau suan, made with split mung beans, featuring a perfectly textured sweet starch that complements the fried dough fritters. But the bubur pulut hitam, enhanced with fresh coconut milk, is also a delight.

Pro-tip: This stall is open just four days weekly. Getting your hands on these treats may require some luck.

Fortune Food Popiah

You can grab a quick snack at Fortune Food Popiah for just S$1.70! For such a small price to pay, you’ll enjoy a flavorful popiah (spring roll) with jicama, crushed peanuts, and more.

The soft yet sturdy skin makes for easy eating without chopstick struggles. For takeout, the sellers pack the fried dough sticks separately to maintain their crispiness when eating the dessert.

Pro-tip: The stall also offers DIY popiah sets, kueh pie tee (savoury hat-shaped pastries), and laksa party sets for online or phone orders.

Li Fang Congee

Address: Floor 1, Albert Centre, 270 Queen St, #01-78, Singapore 180270 (Google Maps)

Hours: Daily, 8 AM – 6 PM

For comforting rainy-day food, try Li Fang Congee’s thick and creamy porridge. Each congee is accompanied by a delightfully crispy fried bread dough for a satisfying meal.

The rare fish slices with cuttlefish is a combination less common in Singapore’s congee stalls. It’s a pleasant surprise to find it here as cuttlefish is often avoided due to its cost.

Pro-tip: Options include chicken, century egg, and mixed pork congee, starting at S$3.50 with an optional S$0.50 egg add-on.

Guan Kee Carrot Cake

— Media from camemberu

Address: Floor 1, Albert Centre, 270 Queen St, #01-59, Singapore 180270 (Google Maps)

Contact: +65 62453989

Hours: Daily, 6 AM – 2 PM

Guan Kee Carrot Cake at Albert Centre draws a constant queue for its fried carrot cake (from S$3). The unique black version, with extra eggs and a mix of black sauce, is a must-try.

The stall’s unique version has a soft texture and smokey edges, especially appealing to local senior diners. Seasoned with fish sauce and sesame oil, each plate offers a savoury and sweet flavour.

Pro-tip: Opt for a S$4 mix of both black and white versions if you’re feeling extra famished.

Bedok Chwee Kueh

— Media from jamietan04

Address: Floor 1, Albert Centre, 270 Queen St, #01-79, Singapore 180270 (Google Maps)

Contact: +65 9833 7709

Hours: Daily, 7 AM – 6.45 PM

Price: $

Website

Bedok Chwee Kueh, a renowned Teochew breakfast stall, is celebrated for its Michelin Bib Gourmand award-winning chwee kueh (cup-shaped rice cakes). Each piece is sizable and has a nice chew to it.

The soft and velvety rice cakes are topped with a delectable mix of preserved radish, scallion, dried shrimp, and chilli. It may seem too umami-like at first, but the rice cake tones down the richer flavours.

Pro-tip: Queues tend to get longer just a little before dinnertime, so time your snack visit accordingly.

Fatt Kee Shou Shi

— Media from ayyh2010

Address: Floor 1, Albert Centre, 270 Queen St, #01-68, Singapore 180270 (Google Maps)

Affordable and satisfying breakfast awaits you at Fatt Kee Shou Shi! Its menu offers simple, nostalgic dishes like chee cheong fun (rice noodle roll), fried noodles, rice dumplings, and porridge.

The stall serves a comforting breakfast featuring Cantonese-style peanut congee, fried bee hoon, and yam cake simmered over traditional hot charcoal stoves.

The yam cake is topped with fiery red chilli sauce, sweet Cantonese-style sauce, aromatic oil, and sesame seeds.

Pro-tip: Expect a bit of a crowd in the morning, as it’s typically a favourite breakfast spot for office-goers.
