Albert Centre Food Centre is a long-standing hawker gem located at 270 Queen Street, right in the heart of Bugis.
It’s also surrounded by cultural landmarks like the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple and Sri Krishnan Temple, making it a popular stop for both worshippers and hungry locals.
Good news: the hawker centre has just reopened after a few months of renovations work.

What makes this food centre distinct isn’t just the food. Upstairs, it has one of Singapore’s largest dry goods markets, stocked with everything from herbs and spices to dried seafood and traditional Chinese ingredients.
Despite being just a short walk from Bugis MRT, Albert Centre remains a low-key, no-frills spot. Here are some of the must haves at Albert Centre Food Centre:

Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-106
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 9pm (Mon 0 Sun)
Best Known For Its Yong Tau Foo and Prawn Paste
Bai Nian Niang Dou Foo often has the longest queue in the food centre. It used to be moderately popular, but the line was never this long.
Now, with multiple outlets across Singapore, its quality may not always be consistent.
Unlike most Yong Tau Foo stalls where you can select your ingredients, the bowl here comes with a fixed assortment such as bitter gourd, prawn paste, pork paste, beancurd, and a mix of “gold, white and black” rolls.
What attracts customers is the clear soup, which is clean-tasting, light yet flavourful, and said to be free from added MSG.
A personal favourite is the prawn paste pieces, which are sweet and pleasantly succulent.

Hock Lee Fishball Noodles
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-102
Opening Hours: 6:30am – 12pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon
Bouncy and Delicious Fish Balls, One of Singapore’s Best
Come early, as the fishballs usually sell out quickly. This is an ideal breakfast stop, opening as early as 6:30am.
They serve freshly made Fishball Noodles ($5) with or without soup, and you can choose your preferred noodle type such as mee kia or mee pok.
The dry Mee Pok is cooked al dente with a satisfying springy bite, tossed in vinegar and chilli.
But the fishballs are the highlight — juicy and delightfully bouncy.
The clear soup garnished with coriander and spring onions also deserves a mention.

Singapore Famous Rojak
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-45
Opening Hours: 1pm – 8:30pm (Mon – Sun)
Michelin Recommended Rojak
Among many versions of rojak, Singapore Famous Rojak stands out for using a lighter, sweeter house-made sauce.
It lightly coats chunks of pineapple, cucumber, turnip, bean sprouts, and tau pok.
Before serving, a handful of coarsely crushed roasted peanuts is sprinkled on top for extra crunch.
The accompanying deep-fried youtiao is more chewy than crispy — a texture some may love while others may not.
The combination of crunch and sweet-spicy flavour makes this dish worth trying.

Angel Horse Teochew Fish Soup 仙马潮州鱼汤
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-95
Opening Hours: 11am – 6pm (Tues – Sat), Closed Sun, Mon
Piping Hot Bowls of Batang Fish Soup
No matter when you visit, this stall is usually crowded.
The Teochew-style sliced fish soup is light and comforting, with thick and juicy fish slices.
Though not especially rich in flavour, it still makes for a pleasant, satisfying bowl.
The fermented bean sauce with chilli padi enhances the dish with traditional Teochew-style flavours.

Song Zhou Fried Carrot Cake
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-59
Opening Hours: 7:30am – 5:30pm (Mon – Sat), Closed Sun
Old-School Carrot Cake Famous for Black Fried Carrot Cake
Song Zhou Fried Carrot Cake has long been a familiar name in the east of Singapore (at Bedok Interchange), with its roots stretching back three generations.
Now with a new outlet at Albert Centre Food Centre, the stall continues to serve its signature Black and White Carrot Cake.
The black version seems to be more popular with bold flavour, some wok hei and just the right mix of dark soy sauce and preserved radish.
Though slightly oily and not always consistent, the dish still delivers a comforting balance of sweet and savoury that regulars keep coming back for.

Li Fang Porridge 丽芳粥品
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-78
Opening Hours: 8am to 7:30pm (Mon – Sun)
Li Fang Porridge has several branches around Singapore, but the main outlet is here at Queen Street.
They offer seafood options like Seafood Congee, La La Congee, Mixed Scallop Congee, Prawn Congee, and Sliced Fish with Cuttlefish Congee.
I tried the Lean Meat with Century Egg version, which had a creamy texture and rich taste. The accompanying youtiao (they serve it as a whole) was crispy.

Say Seng Cooked Food 生成熟食
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-92
Opening Hours: 2pm – 7:30pm (Tues – Wed, Sat – Sun), Closed Mon, Thurs, Fri
Known For Braised Pork Belly
Say Seng has a long queue and often sells out before closing.
Previously known for serving wild boar, they now use regular pork while retaining the flavour and texture.
The pork is tender, though slightly firm, and the highlight is the rich braising sauce and soup enhanced with salted vegetables.

Fatt Kee Shou Shi 發记
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-68
Opening Hours: 7am – 1:30pm (Tues – Sat), Closed Mon, Sun
Fatt Kee Shou Shi serves affordable, traditional Cantonese breakfast with a focus on simplicity.
The stall features a line-up of old-school items like Chee Cheong Fun, Fried Bee Hoon, Peanut Porridge, Yam Cake and Rice Dumplings.
The food may seem plain to some, but it reflects a kind of everyday comfort that is increasingly rare.

Lin Ji Pig Leg Rice 林记猪脚饭
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-109
Opening Hours: 9am – 9pm (Mon – Sun)
Lin Ji Pig Leg Rice 林记猪脚饭 offers a focused menu centred on classic braised pork dishes.

The pig trotter is soft and gelatinous, while the pork belly has a balance of lean meat and fat.
Each bowl comes with a portion of rice or kway, alongside simple accompaniments like salted vegetables or braised tofu.
Sides like Braised Egg Tofu ($1.00), Onsen Eggs ($1.20), Rice ($1.00), Kway ($1.50), and Mei Cai ($2.00) let you customise your meal.

Pondok Makan Indonesian
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-123
Opening Hours: 8am – 8pm (Mon – Sun)
One of the Few Michelin Recommended Halal Stalls
Pondok Makan Indonesia is among the rare halal eateries listed by Michelin in Singapore.
They serve a wide range of Indonesian dishes including Mee Rebus, Mee Siam, Gado Gado, Tahu Goreng, Soto Ayam, Nasi Soto, Lontong and Satay.
The Satay is a favourite — juicy and flavourful, especially the Mutton Satay which is not overly charred and remains tender.

Siraj Famous Waterloo St Indian Rojak
Albert Centre Food Centre #01-120
Opening Hours: 10:30am – 7:30pm (Mon – Sun)
Original Waterloo Street Rojak Since the 1980s
A nostalgic favourite from the old Waterloo Food Centre. While Indian Rojak is not as commonly craved these days, this one still stands out.
Choose from items like Potato, Tahu, Hot Dog, Tempeh, Fried Sotong, Prawns and Fish Cake. Be mindful of the cost as prices vary per item.
The sauce is thickened with sweet potato, making it creamy and rich. The prawn fritters are crispy outside and soft inside.

Zheng Xing Mei Shi 正興美食
Albert Food Centre #01-64
Opening Hours: 9am – 2pm (Tues, Wed, Fri, Sun), Closed Mon, Thurs, Sat
Zheng Xing Desserts is popular for its traditional Chinese desserts, notably the Tau Suan (I also think it’s one of the best you can get in Singapore).
Known for its smooth yet firm mung beans and balanced sweetness, their Tau Suan is paired perfectly with crispy, freshly toasted you tiao.
Beyond the Tau Suan, Zheng Xing also serves other classic desserts such as Bubur Pulut Hitam and Bubur Terigu, each rich and creamy with coconut milk.
