Rihanna and A$AP Rocky had a parents’ night out at the Met Gala on Monday, and while they each told different outlets on the carpet that they were enjoying themselves on fashion’s biggest night, the internet’s rumor mill said otherwise.

In footage captured by TMZ, the couple was seen having a seemingly tense interaction in the back of a sprinter van. (Side note: I need my TikTok diva, @tismejackieg, to provide a lip-reading of this for my sanity.)

In another video, Rihanna appeared to give Rocky a stern look after she spotted him chatting with the creative director of Swarovski, Giovanna Engelbert, as well as EJAE and Tyla.

Once the clips made the rounds online, people assumed that (A) Rihanna totally snubbed Tyla, and that (B) she might have been arguing with Rocky. But according to TMZ’s sources, Rih and Rocky weren’t fighting, but actually “totally drained” from a fully packed day.

“It was a long day and they were running on empty,” one source told the outlet, which also claimed that “they’re happy, and people are simply overanalyzing a tired moment.”

Tyla even weighed in on the speculation in a TikTok video posted on May 6, where she revealed she had a brief interaction with Rih at the Met. “Everyone knows I love Rih, oh my gosh. So, I met her last night, and she was cool,” the “She Did It Again” singer said, in part.

She added, “You know, I met her, but I think she was occupied, ’cause…I went up to her. I was like, ‘Oh, hey,’ and she was like, ‘My baby daddy’s calling me.’ And then she left, and I was like, ‘Oh, maybe she was busy. So I don't know. I felt awkward… I don't know how to say hi if I feel like someone’s busy.”

Per Tyla’s recap and the behind-the-scenes footage, it does seem like the couple simply wanted to catch some zzz’s after a long night.
