Years ago I went to see David Meltzer - the leader of The Serpent Power give a reading at Beyond Baroque in Venice. He was a lost link between the beats and the hippies. After the reading people were gathered around him asking about his place in the San Francisco/ Los Angeles poetry axis. Then illiterate moron me asked about The Serpent Power. That did it, he ignored all questions about poetry and only wanted to talk about the band he led. People were looking at me like I just farted in church. That night, I won oin the know-it-all game.
