Opening discussion of the botched "August Coup": Radio Moscow's rock 'n' roll DJ, Vasily Strelnikov describes how he first discovered that the coup attempt was in progress.
We hear the first official announcement of the coup from R. Moscow.
Other radio services also announce; back to Strelnikov; Yeltsin supporters are b'casting from the Russian Federation building; clip from Radio Prague; takeover of R. Moscow w/propaganda, then "Now back to music."
I compare R. Moscow and R. Beijing announcers during times of crisis; some straight-talk from the BBC.

Back to Radio Moscow & more bilge from "the State Committee on the State of Emergency" by a robotic announcer.
Decrees are read; much ado about "law & order" and "stability"; and an announcer's labored breathing.

"There is no politics but the manipulation of power through language; thus the latter's constant debasement." —Gilbert Sorrentino Facts do not at all speak for themselves, but require a socially acceptable narrative to absorb, sustain and cirulcate them." —Edward Said
After a day or two the coup isn't going so well: One of the Gang of Eight takes to his bed with a "hypertensive crisis/high blood pressure," (another commits suicide).
More stodgy disinformation from Radio Moscow.
The "Gang of Eight" (minus the suicide)

Radio Moscow apologizes to the public "for having been unable to conform to their professional duties due to strict control that existed over the past three days." But just what fate is in store for the "new Russia"? Pappy Bush chimes in to give us an idea.

"Prior to the success of this song, Anderson was little known outside the art world.
"First released as a promotional single, the song also appeared on her debut album Big Science (1982) and as part of her live album United States Live (1984)." —Wikipedia

"Derailleur," however, "was recorded using a small Yamaha table top synthesizer - a Yamaha QY10 digital synthesizer workstation." PSA on anorexia nervosa, after announcing the previous tracks.
This ends the media-propaganda portion of the show.

He mixed traditional sounds with modern arrangements, used electronica and special effects, played with circular breathing on winds and didgeridoo, and created original sounds from synthesizers.
Ariel Kalma'a music is a synthesis of East and West, classical and jazzy elements. This synthesis is simple and natural, dissolving contradictions by themselves.
Born in Paris in 1947; died in June 2025.
