↳ Andrew in Toronto @6:01
Hey Andrew, welcome back!doc, you're sprung! How was your trip?
↳ doctorjazz @6:03
I am still offline.↳ adamdoesit @6:05
Hey, adamdoesit, trip was great, got back late last night after flying a kazillion hours. Slept OK, but crashing now...↳ Andrew in Toronto @6:08
You''re still able to post using phone data, I assume...not enough to stream music?↳ DJ Peter @6:13
I wish I knew.↳ doctorjazz @6:11
Right.↳ Song: "Sister Cheryl" by "Wynton Marsalis"
Really like this tune (quick internet search says it's composed by Tony Williams, but 1at released by Wynton. Great bass line!↳ Song: "Sister Cheryl" by "Wynton Marsalis"
Wynton is stepping down from directing Jazz at Lincoln Center.↳ doctorjazz @6:18
Love this tune, too. I arranged it for my college combo. But I put it in the key of C (Tony has it in B. Yikes. Improvising in B major and then B minor, beyond my band's capabilities)↳ Song: "Sister Cheryl" by "Wynton Marsalis"
branford goes a bit out on this (he was always a bit hipper than Wynton, though, deslpte my making difficulties, I actually do really like Wynton).↳ Song: "The Collector" by "Wayne Shorter"
Have Adam's Apple, but hadn't seen this album until now...↳ doctorjazz @6:23
first issue on Japanese LP. Added to ADAM'S APPLE cd as a bonus track↳ DJ Peter @6:24
Only have it on LP...↳ Song: "The Collector" by "Wayne Shorter"
Hancock floating the harmonies...↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:05
MsJazz has to use a CPAP machine-she didn't think she could tolerate it at first, but she sleeps much better since she got used to using it (I sleep better too-though I used to listen to more music, as I had to plug in ear headphones and a digital audio player to be able to fall asleep).↳ doctorjazz @6:33
it took me three months to get stop fighting it, longer than that to actually like it. now i actually WANT it.↳ Song: "Dolphin Dance" by "Ahmad Jamal"
Herbie Hancock tune...↳ DJ Peter @6:35
I think often people have trouble with it because, as you said, they fight it, decide they can't tolerate it before they even use it (MsJazz was like that, at first, but now never misses a night). But it's actually very useful, prevents some serious complications down the line...↳ doctorjazz @6:33
thx for the advice dr j… it’s unclear to me how my sleep is interrupted. i don’t waken with a gasp or a snort … yeah but either way i should be using it...↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:39
it actually doesn't have to be interrupted (though people often go into very light sleep, even wake up,even without sleep apnea, but they learn to put themselves right back to sleep and don't remember it). But even if you didn't wake at all, what's happening if one really has obstructive sleep apnea is that when you're sleeping, you're having multiple episodes where you actually stop breathing for a few seconds. That causes your blood oxygen to go down to levels that are unhealthy for your brain and the rest of the body, and that struggle to start breathing causes lung damage and the enlareged heart (this doesn't happen in weeks, even months, but over many years it accumulates and causes damage).↳ DJ Peter @6:43
righthave dinner marinating… chicken in lemon garlic mustard… chopped broccoli stems and carrots in lemon juice garlic… wee bit of hot sauce
↳ doctorjazz @6:46
dr jazz… you are scaring me straight about my sleep problem… and i appeciate it↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:49
Everything I posted is the truth, I've got no financial interest in CPAP machines (wish I did...)↳ doctorjazz @6:50
i was not suspicious of ulterior motives...↳ Song: "Straighten Up and Fly Right" by "Yusef Lateef"
Cool down baby, don't you blow your top↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:46
thank you tom tom for sharing your dinner progress. How about the rest of you?
↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:51
Didn't really think you were, but wanted to use the line...heh heh heh↳ adamdoesit @6:53
but you are choking me!↳ DJ Peter @6:54
But I haven't even told you what I'm making yet!↳ Song: "Straighten Up and Fly Right" by "Yusef Lateef"
New release? I Dig the track!↳ Song: "Straighten Up and Fly Right" by "Yusef Lateef"
This is some record. I could listen to the rhythm trio all night, and they're here as Yusef's band.↳ DJ Peter @6:53
doing good… now friendly with amina claudine myers… delivered a drawing to her for a birthday present last week… initiated an interview for her with dave sewelson that’s happening april 25th…. solved a artist's block over the weeklend…was not getting satisfying results with work in profile tbh… have my work in a gallery’s flat files which will be at mana contemporary in jersey city… opening this saturday 5-7… at least one fmu dj will attend… fred moten l=o=v=e-s my work…. so i’m doing good↳ doctorjazz @7:00
call your local Record Store if you want it on LP this coming Saturday... or you can get it on digital the following Friday.↳ DJ Peter @7:04
I don't really HAVE a local record store-the closest one, Scotties in Summit, closed a couple of months ago (and that was a 20 minute drive). PREX is always an option, but further, and will likely be a zoo on Saturday-Record Store Day, I assume (there are a few others, but all are a decent drive...)↳ Song: "forrest corridors iii" by "Kevin Sun"
i am digging the misterioso on quaaludes of this tune↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:12
misterioso…...tempo↳ Song: "forrest corridors iii" by "Kevin Sun"
Went to Lowlands not too long ato-Tim Berne seems to be a regular there (saw his set on a Tuesday night, place was full, though it's not all that large, basically a bar).↳ Song: "One Finger Snap" by "Herbie Hancock"
These 60s Blue Notes, man...↳ doctorjazz @7:19
you can say that again!↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:04
@ peter...guess that was a not so humble brag… but you asked! How far is the gallery from WFMU mothership?
↳ DJ Peter @7:30
i haven’t figured that out yet...↳ tom tom the pipers son @7:31
Here's a link to the gallery↳ DJ Peter @7:30
i see i’ts closer to journal square in “little india” …. on newark ave.↳ doctorjazz @7:33
thx dr j... 7:38pm↳ tom tom the pipers son @6:39
There's a big section on sleep issues in the N Y Times these days. It's worth checking out.↳ Andrew in Toronto @7:38

↳ Song: "'Round Midnight" by "Joe Henderson"
henderson’s shifts in tone are pretty amazing… at moments sounds like he’s playing a bari then an alto… and then the tenor… ana one… ana two … ana three...
↳ Song: "Well You Needn't" by "Herbie Hancock"
When you said "transitional period in jazz," I braced for guitars and flutes played by dudes in open shirts, not doubletime bop played by guys in… well Wynton isn't in a suit yet, but he'll put one on soon.↳ Song: "Well You Needn't" by "Herbie Hancock"
Saw Wynton and Branford back when they were with Blakey (and Wynton a few times since, Branford later on as well, once fronting the Lincoln Center Jazz Orch at Tanglewood sans Wynton).↳ Song: "Ezz-May" by "Mel Powell"
This is very cool track indeed! (used to spend full days at PREX going through the racks, then trimmig what I bought when I added it up). Getting too old to do that these days, less patient, more back trouble...↳ Song: "Every Bear That Ever There Was" by "Jenny Scheinman"
and seen Scheinman a number of times, most recently at Winter Jazz Fest at The City Winery NYC. She did a great set!↳ doctorjazz @8:32
She played this album (but the guitarist was Steve Cardenas, not Frisell)↳ Song: "Watermelon Man" by "Count Basie"
They put the Swing back into the rhythm on this, very nice version! 8:39pm↳ bigplanetnoise @8:39
Hi BPN!↳ Song: "Maiden Voyage/Everything In Its Right Place" by "...
Boy, this doesn't sound like Hancock's, the rhythm is all changed, displaced...I like it! 8:49pm↳ doctorjazz @8:42
they mashed it up with Radiohead's "everything in it sright place"↳ bigplanetnoise @8:39
hola hello hiya!↳ Song: "Balance of Time" by "Artemis"
(a few years ago the NYC Winter Jazz Fest at The City Winery did a show featurig almost all women, many of these players were there).↳ DJ Peter @8:51
I've never quite taken to Radiohead, i've tried, they put me to sleep (not a bad thing if that's what you're trying to do, but not for listening to music...) I wanted to like them, have such a following, but...↳ tom tom the pipers son @8:55
i do plan to visit in May and will check out Duchamp for sure. But cannot be there for the mana opening... how long will your stuff be up?↳ DJ Peter @9:00
it’s work in their flat files… i don’t think work will be “up” at all, but the flat files will be there over the summer↳ Song: "Dolphin Dance" by "Ahmad Jamal"
This version of Dolphin Dance seems weird to me. It’s a beautiful tune, so why pick this song if you want to go into a completely different direction? That is my opinion.↳ Song: "Straighten Up and Fly Right" by "Yusef Lateef"
Humorous quote from Flying Home in Barron’s solo on Straighten Up and Fly Right. I enjoyed that.↳ Song: "One Finger Snap (take 19)" by "Herbie Hancock"
Take 19—yikes!↳ Listener Gregory @8:26
Van Gelder numbered all takes sequentially, so take 19 means it's the 19th performance of the session (not the 19th of that one tune).↳ Song: "'Round Midnight" by "Herbie Hancock"
Kudos to Gil Evans, who did the arrangement for Miles that this is based on.↳ Song: "Space Flight" by "The Chamber Symphony of Philade...
Wow!↳ Song: "Love Theme from 'Mutiny on the Bounty'" by "Johnn...
I don’t remember a love story in Mutiny on the Bounty. Maybe when the crew gets to their island paradise?此内容由惯性聚合(RSS阅读器)自动聚合整理,仅供阅读参考。 原文来自 — 版权归原作者所有。
