↳ Imaginos @9:00
Nice to see you in the Digital Salon, Imaginos! I hope you are well.↳ Mr. X @9:00
Mr. X! It's always nice to get a transmission from your planet.↳ Song: "(Performance 5) (Live)" by "Moodring"
This recording - like most of what we will hear tonight - was engineered by me, on the radio program, "What's This Called?" when I did live sound for bands for that show.↳ Song: "(Performance 5) (Live)" by "Moodring"
This band name sounds familiar, pretty sure I've seen their name somewhere. Maybe they played at Oly X Fest a time or two?↳ Song: "(Performance 5) (Live)" by "Moodring"

Nanu nanu! 🖖↳ Mr. X @9:02
Most likely. Mae Starr, the singer, plays around PDX a lot, in a lot of bands.↳ Bandit @9:03
Mork and Mindy was more funny than My Favorite Martian.↳ Mr. X @9:04
True↳ postconsumer @9:05
Hi dee hi hee ho↳ postconsumer @9:05
Yay! postconsumer!↳ Bandit @9:06
I love when George says that.↳ Austin Rich @9:13
I've wanted to know the story behind that↳ Maulydaft @9:14
Yeah, I like them! I think it's gonna be a fun show. I've got two more songs by them coming, in hour 2, and hour 3!↳ Bandit @9:13
There's a bit of a story. I'll tell it someday.↳ Song: "(Performance 1) (Live) [Excerpt 1]" by "Crank Stu...
Another performance I engineered for "What's This Called?" Photo by Ricardo Wang.↳ Austin Rich @9:15
You can't just leave me hanging like that!!↳ Imaginos @9:16
"What's This Called?" features all experimental music, and performers, who are usually pushing boundaries in a variety of ways. You never know what you're gonna get on WTC!↳ Bandit @9:17
I was caregiving for a gentleman named George, and I asked him to do the Voice Overs for the top of the show, and the Weather Report once, in the early days of the show. He was nice, and we used to watch a lot of Westerns together while I was taking care of him.↳ Austin Rich @9:14
Great!↳ Austin Rich @9:18
Sleep Well!↳ Song: "(Performance 1) (Live) [Excerpt 1]" by "Offset Ne...
This gentleman performed with bicycle wheels and parts, and used looping pedals and contact mics to create the sounds. Another one I had fun engineering. 9:20pm↳ Maulydaft @9:20
Oh no, I'm sorry! Hopefully you find some sounds you enjoy.↳ Austin Rich @9:18
George sounds like a sweet man↳ Ricardo Wang @9:20
Ricardo! Thanks for joining us.↳ Bandit @9:21
He was.↳ Ricardo Wang @9:20
I mentioned this last week, but you can hear Ricardo's show on Freeform Portland, in the Portland area, or on his website:↳ postconsumer @9:22
Yeah, I'm a fan of Crank Sturgeon (and PCRV). I've gotten to play on the same bill as each of them, and engineer them on the radio. Tons of fun!↳ Austin Rich @9:21
Don't worry I am planning on some noises for when I call in↳ Song: "(Performance 6) (Live)" by "Paco Jones"
Paco - who has been making music under "Shadows In Blue" - recorded an album of piano music in 2013, and I engineered a live set on Ricardo's show when it was released. Paco recorded both the opening and closing theme music for MVM, now!↳ Song: "(Performance 3) (Live)" by "Mangled Bohemians"
I couldn't find a photo of this particular live performance, but this is a photo that Ricardo took of Mangled Bohemians playing a show in Portland, around 2011.↳ Austin Rich @9:29
Sounds good on this end↳ Bandit @9:30
Good to hear!↳ Song: "(Performance 2) (Live) [Excerpt 1]" by "Mortal En...
Another photo by Ricardo Wang. Unless stated otherwise, he took all the photos of the acts that you'll see.↳ Bandit @9:45
You won't be able to hear me but you will be able to hear the Bandit Noises ™↳ Bandit @9:45
Cool! Yeah, let's try that next VO.↳ Song: "(Performance 2) (Live) [Excerpt 1]" by "Mortal En...
Mortal Engines included a recording that I made on one of their albums. I was very pleased with that.↳ Song: "(Performance 2) (Live)" by "Asian Women On The Te...
This band was great! They brought russian records with them, and gave me a Russian Heavy Metal record as a thank you gift for running sound for them. They also gave me a lathe-cut 7" that is VERY good, that I've played on the show before.↳ Austin Rich @9:49
Neat!!↳ Arvo Zylo @9:56
Arvo! Thanks for dropping into the Digital Salon.↳ Bandit @9:58
That was the WTC? way!↳ Austin Rich @9:58
Fair enough lol↳ pxe @10:07
Hello!↳ pxe @10:07
pXe! Always nice to see you in the Digital Salon.↳ Austin Rich @10:16
glad to be tuned in with u folks↳ Song: "(Performance 1) (Live)" by "Overdose The Katatonic"
That was briefly the voice of Ricardo Wang, introducing OTK.↳ Arvo Zylo @10:11
Yeah, I was thinking about that, too.↳ Arvo Zylo @10:15
Action Business?↳ Austin Rich @10:20
And you can also see the tour schedule at the top of this page, now.↳ Song: "(Performance 1) [Excerpt 1] (Live)" by "Cornelius...
I really enjoy this person's work, and I wish they didn't live so far away. (They're on the East Coast now.) Their shows are always incredible.↳ Bandit @10:25
I haven't, and that I know of, they only have three tracks! I'm gonna play the third one at the top of hour three.↳ Song: "(Performance 1) [Excerpt 1] (Live)" by "Cornelius...
As Ricardo was saying, that was a mix, starting with a recorded piece by Cornelius, who then mixed in the "live" Cornelius.↳ Austin Rich @10:25
Okie dokie! Also I sent you an email about an idea↳ Bandit @10:27
I like ideas!↳ Geoff-U @10:27
That guy used to be in a band called, "Your Drugs, My Money," and I have a few recordings by them, too. (And Cornelius has played in a lot of other groups.) Your Drugs, My Money had to stop, as the other gentleman in the group passed on.↳ Austin Rich @10:24
I believe I did a fest with them in Texas. I drank a lot but I'm pretty sure that's what happened. I had a few tapes of theirs. Always good stuff.↳ Arvo Zylo @10:29
There's a VERY cool, three-cassette-set that CFVS3 put out, that I like to put on when I can.↳ Song: "(Performance 1) [Excerpt 1] (Live)" by "Paintings...
I think this band also used the name "New Red Sun" at one point. 10:41pm↳ Song: "(Performance 1) [Excerpt 1] (Live)" by "Paintings...
This was a good set.↳ Bandit @10:41
Adios! Banditos!↳ Arvo Zylo @10:43
I loved that show when it was first on, and it has aged VERY well, too. I would watch it with my Niece, when I was babysitting her, and she loved it.↳ Song: "(Performance 2) [Excerpt 1] (Live)" by "Green Mil...
I've seen them play a few times now, and they like to improvise a lot, but they do have songs that they return to, between the improvised parts. You never know how much of this was worked out before, and how much was made up on the fly.↳ mistercaz @10:52
It was a real honor to get to record / engineer them. They are still great! I saw them a handful of years ago, and they just blew the doors off the venue. They mostly stay in Japan, but if they come near you, go see them! They're really fun!↳ das ubuibi @11:11
das! I always enjoy any chance we get to cross paths.↳ Song: "(Performance) [Excerpt] (Live)" by "Big City Orch...
We will get to hear a LOT of this performance, but not all of it. I recommend you listen to the full episode, on the "What's This Called?" website.↳ Song: "(Performance) [Excerpt] (Live)" by "Big City Orch...

This was a good day. I wish there were more days like this.↳ Song: "(Performance) [Excerpt] (Live)" by "Big City Orch...
I think I hear a Numbers Station in there...↳ das ubuibi @11:21
We need to do more Math Rock jokes. What a poorly-named genre.↳ das ubuibi @11:23
I pulled so much stuff for this show, and I realize now that I had to cut about an hour of material, just to make this show fit into three hours. There will be sequels...↳ David Shortell @11:25
Since I'm gonna have them on the show next week, I'm gonna ask them about that. I know one of the members - Monty - and I suspect he's a "Transmetropolitian" fan, just based on his politics.↳ Song: "(Performance) [Excerpt] (Live)" by "Big City Orch...
One of the saddest things to see happen at this radio station that I used to work at was to watch the vinyl collection slowly diminish over the years, as people would either steal or sell LPs, not thinking other DJs would care. I recall on a number of occasions - having been one of the longest running DJs at one point - that I would go into a staff meeting and BEG them to keep the records, because they were worth it in terms of the stations history. (Same with their massive CD collection, a lot of is from local artists.) The last time I was at KPSU, they had very little of their physical collection left. It was sort of a bummer.↳ pxe @11:35
This day was fun. I'm glad we still get to do stuff like this, all these years later!↳ Austin Rich @11:36
me too!↳ das ubuibi @11:48
yaay↳ das ubuibi @11:48
Oh? I'm often free. Let's talk!↳ Mr. X @11:51
Thanks Mr. X! I'm excited to hear your DJ set!↳ das ubuibi @11:52
Oh no! I'll be home a lot of the day, too. But I have to do a little work here and there...↳ Song: "(Performance 3) (Live)" by "Tres Gone"
Tres Gone would always improvise their performances, entirely made up on the spot. I LOVED their shows. They were always interesting.此内容由惯性聚合(RSS阅读器)自动聚合整理,仅供阅读参考。 原文来自 — 版权归原作者所有。
