I was on the St. Charles trolley the first time I was in New Orleans. Whadda trip that was. Totally free-form and haphazard. My friends and I drove from Vermont and we didn't even initially plan on going to NOLA. But, sometimes the goddesses conspire to put us on an adventure. Maybe I'll talk about that on Monday.
according to Discogs there were actually two labels from Texas called Spindletop Records. The first one from Port Arthur in the '60s, the second from Austin in the '80s and '90s.

still very good in a trad jazz style
really nice guys
I saw Payton at Jazzfest last month with Butcher Brown. Payton switched btwn trumpet and Rhodes for funky versions of songs from Kind Of Blue and A Love Supreme. I think he's great in both traditional and modern modes. He kills on anything he plays.

Thanks for tuning in everybody! Let's do this again next weekend.
BTW, in my last mic break I mention an upcoming fill-in on the WFMU mothership, which is actually NOT happening. It was cancelled after I recorded the show and I didn't have time to revise. So I guess next Saturday will have to do!
