It's okay so far. I'm certainly ready for a little Word Jazz... Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Austin Rich: I'll have made it through most of the Word Jazz episodes soon, at this pace. Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm

The time is always right for a little Word Jazz…have your passports and your tickets ready… Avatar 8:07pm

Ken Nordine almost always summons me Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Austin Rich: This bit about Mauve is from one of Ken's previous albums. (His "Colors" records.) While good parts of this Word Jazz shows are new, he adds in old bits, and riffs over them for this show. It's nice to see him give new life to old pieces. Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:09pm

You and me both! I find new stuff in his pieces each time I listen. What a fascinating career! There's virtually no one else like him. Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Austin Rich: "Not to touch the Earth / not to see the Sun."

Lines from a Doors song. Interesting. Was Ken a Doors fan?

Austin Rich: "Artists are all eccentric."

Now how would Ken know that?

↳ Austin Rich @8:14

Hi Austin.

More likely I think Nordine is referencing The Golden Bough by James Frazer, which is where the Doors got it from (as can be read on the wikipedia link you posted).

↳ WR @8:18

Answer is correct (60th chapter, The Golden Bough) Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm

Oh! I didn't even read the wiki! Though that makes sense, as Morrison seemed to be interested in literature and poetry. Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm

Imaginos: Why am I suddenly picturing roos? Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Austin Rich: en.wikipedia.org... Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Austin Rich: These shows I'm playing are sourced from archive.org, and seem to be the same .mp3s that Ken used to have available on his website, before those all disappeared, shortly after his death. At the end of each episode, there's an "ad" for how you can order what you just heard on a CD, which was how the mp3s from Ken's site would end. I have cut the ads off, for this presentation. Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Austin Rich: With regards to the mp3s that are on archive.org, I have noticed that they are often over-compressed, and the balance between channels seems off here and there. As is my nature, I do a little fiddling with the recordings, to get them to sound as good as possible, before I run them. It's not like the work I do on Dimestore, but I still like them to sound a close to how they should sound as possible. Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
Austin Rich: I wonder if anyone has gone through all of Ken's shows and made "annotations" for what is in each episode? I haven't found anything in the general searches I've done... Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Austin Rich: "Shave and a haircut..." Avatar 8:39pm

I have noticed that the "Shave And A Haircut" secret knock is starting to disappear... Avatar 8:43pm
Imaginos: My friend and I still use it Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Imaginos @8:43

That's good. I recall when I started meeting younger folks, they would use various video game music riffs for their secret knocks. (I recall one roommate with a "Super Mario Bros." Secret Knock.) Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Austin Rich: In the last episode he was looking for a dictionary of sayings like this. Now he's got a whole pieces of saying like this. Avatar 8:47pm
Imaginos: Needle in a haystack is easy. Magnet. Hard is looking for a specific needle in a pile of needles   8:50pm
Barno (from Akron): How do you do, fellow kids. Greetings from mile marker 237 on Ohio I90 Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm

Barno... the name sounds familiar. Are you a DJ on Sheena's Jungle Room, perchance?   8:53pm
Barno (from Akron): Ha ha ha awesome thanks so much for filling in tonight. Such short notice you are a superstar. Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Barno (from Akron) @8:53

No problem. I'm always around for the hour before my show, so I'm aware of anything going on before I take over. It's not hard to put on something easy.   8:55pm
Barno (from Akron): Welcome to Pennsylvania Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Austin Rich: Thanks for listening everyone! Stick around for Dimestore Radio Theater, on next!
