It's okay so far. I'm certainly ready for a little Word Jazz...

Ken Nordine almost always summons me

This bit about Mauve is from one of Ken's previous albums. (His "Colors" records.) While good parts of this Word Jazz shows are new, he adds in old bits, and riffs over them for this show. It's nice to see him give new life to old pieces.

You and me both! I find new stuff in his pieces each time I listen. What a fascinating career! There's virtually no one else like him.

"Not to touch the Earth / not to see the Sun."
Lines from a Doors song. Interesting. Was Ken a Doors fan?

"Artists are all eccentric."
Now how would Ken know that?

Hi Austin.
More likely I think Nordine is referencing The Golden Bough by James Frazer, which is where the Doors got it from (as can be read on the wikipedia link you posted).

Answer is correct (60th chapter, The Golden Bough)

Oh! I didn't even read the wiki! Though that makes sense, as Morrison seemed to be interested in literature and poetry.

These shows I'm playing are sourced from archive.org, and seem to be the same .mp3s that Ken used to have available on his website, before those all disappeared, shortly after his death. At the end of each episode, there's an "ad" for how you can order what you just heard on a CD, which was how the mp3s from Ken's site would end. I have cut the ads off, for this presentation.

With regards to the mp3s that are on archive.org, I have noticed that they are often over-compressed, and the balance between channels seems off here and there. As is my nature, I do a little fiddling with the recordings, to get them to sound as good as possible, before I run them. It's not like the work I do on Dimestore, but I still like them to sound a close to how they should sound as possible.

I wonder if anyone has gone through all of Ken's shows and made "annotations" for what is in each episode? I haven't found anything in the general searches I've done...

That's good. I recall when I started meeting younger folks, they would use various video game music riffs for their secret knocks. (I recall one roommate with a "Super Mario Bros." Secret Knock.)

In the last episode he was looking for a dictionary of sayings like this. Now he's got a whole pieces of saying like this.

Needle in a haystack is easy. Magnet. Hard is looking for a specific needle in a pile of needles

No problem. I'm always around for the hour before my show, so I'm aware of anything going on before I take over. It's not hard to put on something easy.
