Hi all, sorry I'm late! I missed the left turn at Albuquerque and was all the way to Jupiter before I could turn around!
Those late nights on FM in 70s were always fun. Here, our local underground station was KFMQ-FM and Saturday nights at 10, they would play an entire NEW LP, so one could record it instead of buying it! We did that some and it paid off for a few years when Heart's Magazine was called back, but we had on tape from KFMQ. I have the original LP again now as meant to be heard.
SO if you go to stores, it IS possible to get the original, but not likely.

Here's what you heard on KFMQ-FM Lincoln in 1973. You'll see lotsa AM stuff here, but it was still transitional in 73. garfunkle, not one you would think, but I LOVED this LP. Bought the quad version.
Certainly, you were not gonna hear # 12, 20, 21, 39, 45, 46 on AM, most likely. www.las-solanas.com...
I do think the Adrian Belew front man sitch was equal to the Red lineup, but you still have Bill Bruford!!! and you get Tony Levin! and 3 crazy good albums!
While FM was playing this stuff, you could flip to AM for tons of commercials, fast DJs, kiddie or disco, the latest clues to Paul's death, AT40, Powerline and the FUN songs.
Thanks...I have all the lights in the studio off except for the glow of the computers and thes screen...window is open and it's storming outside...perfect ambience...
I like seeing the drum kit up front on the album cover. Dixie dregs' drummer used to play with his back to the audience up front. You could see everything he did.
You nailed it! Sitting in semi--darkness, watching the VU meters bounce while cueing up the next track . . . or listening while pulling an all nighter in the fifth floor study lounge, watching the fog roll in until all you could see was the glow of the traffic light changing, and wondering if anyone else was up at that hour . . .
twice though I had pcp unwittingly. That was far out

I did acid maybe five times in my life and the last time was 35 years ago. I'm boring now...I haven't touched weed in 15 years and I only drink once in a blue moon. Pure air ain't so bad..
I suppose not but it turned out ok. The first time it was laced in a joint that my friend got on the street. The 2nd time it was people I knew. But my reaction was not adverse
I haven’t touched a psychedelic since 1978 and quit smoking pot over 30 years ago. I probably drink less than a case of beer in a year but I still love my whiskey and bourbon, hahahah
Cool, in Los Angeles it was very strong. I watched a few folks lose it, but still better than JUNK! I am so thankful I refused a realationship with a needle.

the first time on pcp I think it was 1978 and we were watching the midnight special on the b&w tv. And I went into that white hum and when I came out Cheap Trick was playing and they were in color
There was some very clean fry blotter in the 80s, I took Bob Weir's challenge and tripped a massive amount of times. And One Day I Grew Up - Iabout the time I turned 30 something - Song fits LSD With Reality.
After tripping so many times you're always tripping in a way???...:)

The most intense LSD I ever did was called Green Pyramid. It looked like translucent plastic, it was the size of a blotter and had a point sticking out of it. I did a hit and a half and actually had an out of body experience from it. I didn't do it again for a loooooong time after that. The guy I got it from even said "you did a hit and a halF??????"

The whole idea of buying, as we did in the day, unidentified product that someone tells you is psychedelic X or Y...just plain unwise, or downright goofy. Never had a scary or dangerous outcome, but ingested a couple blanks: Brown acid at my only Dead concert -- no good. Orange Sunshine from a shivering guy next to Boston Common -- no good. Who knows what is was or could've been?
Product for first tripping experience was described as mescaline, but later assumed to be purple microdot. Distributed by a 19 year old to a line of 15 to 17 year olds in a funky ski dorm during a church group weekend. Soooo much wisdom on display.
That was kind of my experience...never got sold anything that made me have a "bad" trip but I did get some that was probably Play-Doh formed into a pill and sold as a hit of microdot.

Guy I still work with regularly says he was distributing acid in Boston in the 60s, and says the stuff was originating with Leary and Owsley. I cannot confirm or discount.
Owsley was not connected to Leary. Leary was connected to the Legal French Sandez folks. Owsley is known for turning on a chemist who created Orange Sunshine! I was to young.
I'm in Michigan, the original legal rec weed state. I am not kidding, there are six weed stores within walking distance of my house and if you stand in the parking lot of any of the six, you can see the other five with the naked eye.
I live sort of near the state line adjacent to a state that doesn't allow it, so we get a LOT of people coming up here from Indiana to buy dope, which is how six weed stores can all stay afloat being within half a mile of each other.
Indiana banned weed store billboards in the state but they grandfathered in existing ones and all the sign owners renewed their contracts for the next twenty years!

still b/p: The whole idea of buying, as we did in the day, unidentified product that someone tells you is psychedelic X or Y...just plain unwise, or downright goofy.

I had a cassette of "Living In The Past" I bought with birthday money when I was kid and I played it until it was practically blank!still b/p: Hadn't heard/read til just now that, reportedly, the precise planning and repetition of Tull live was viewed most unfavorably by Zeppelin.
CC: I thought it was kind of cool how they beat out Metallica for that one award show...:)
Discotech Underground: Several years ago I watched a TV concert of Tull and Ian's voice is kinda gone. It doesn't have any of the warmth and character it did during those first few albums.

After Metallica's Ride the Lightning ? They went to hell very fast. I know losing Cliff Burton is a hard pill. but ...CC: Oh yes...legs in the air...etc...:)

Those early Tull shows were just incredible. I saw my first one in 1973 and I was blown away by the performancescoelacanth∅: oh well... as i always miss most of big planet noise, so i miss most of this.

Ride The Lightning was their best. I saw them with Cliff twice on Master Of Puppets tour opening for Ozzy. I remember very little about it because the sound systems were so bad, it was just a muddy roar.CC:

i think songs from the wood was their last good album - and that came after 2 mediocre at best albums. to be fair i haven't heard anything later than stormwatch; and i have no interest to.i LOVE songs from the wood though.
