I mean it makes sense that he would, he moved there as a young child. Chubby Checker and Eartha Kitt were also born in South Carolina and moved away young. I'm pretty sure Chubby Checker considers himself a Philly native. I don't know where if anywhere Eartha Kitt claimed, but based on what I've heard about her childhood, it definitely was not South Carolina.
