I would argue that the jazz jam has its roots in the same history as the traditional music in Cuba. There's definitely a jazz influence in more modern Cuban music, but the jamming aspect is far, far older.

And Beny was a friend of my grandfather. Abuelo Oscar moved to the city and started washing dishes. He saved up for a chicken stand, and would sell fried chicken late night to all the people leaving the clubs. Beny loved his chicken and would come by all the time, like at 3 or 4 in the morning. And I get it cos my abuelo could COOK!!! He ended up opening a bunch of restaurants and setting his brothers up, and then had some in Miami. I miss him so much, and his cafetería.
