It's interesting to me how 1990s and 2000s rock has come back into vogue. When I was in college people would struggle to recognize the Smashing Pumpkins
I never listened to my college station, although apparently it was pretty prestigious at one point. I didn't have anyway to stream internet radio at the time, and the college's terrestrial radio signal is pretty weak.

Honestly, I wasn't super pleased with a lot of the rotation 2022-25.
My college station has a schedule but only a handful of shows actually have an info screen, so there's no way to know what the shows actually play. Their playlist archive is just a big list every song played.
Got this on a Cramps-themed comp. Apparently these two were pretty big but I've never heard of them.

In news somewhat relevant to this show, I got JSP Records' Louis Jordan boxset this week and "The Big Horn" - a boxset of "honking sax" jump blues and rock and roll. Looking forward to checking them out.

FWIW WFUV filed an FCC regulatory dispute against WFMU decades ago. It's complicated.

Krys O.:
The Regulatory Fight: Around 1990, WFUV, along with other nonprofit stations (WSHU and WKTW), challenged WFMU before the FCC, arguing that a 1962 calculation error regarding antenna height allowed WFMU to operate at a higher power than intended, covering over 1,400 square miles instead of 830.The Goal: Challenging stations, including WFUV, sought to have WFMU's power reduced to 650 watts, which would have cut about 40% of its coverage area.Outcome/Feud: The fight led to long-running tension, with supporters of WFMU viewing the actions of the other stations as a bullying tactic.

Ahhhh. Years ago at the college radio station I was involved with, a Christian oriented station was claiming the same interference + I’m sure the filthy godlessness of these punk kids and their voodoo beat recirds
WWVU uses a directional tower and mostly avoids the W. PA. market

Krys, I do remember this! It was an ongoing vexation. I had the WFMU tee shirt with the transmitter attenae and vultures flying around it. I think the caption was “Stop The Descent”

my home station KBOO in Portland OR is dealing with a religious broadcaster stepping all over one of our translators in the Columbia River Gorge.
Rumor also had it that the same station had volunteers monitoring KBOO outside of Safe Harbor hours, trying to find something that they could file an FCC complaint so they could challenge our license there.
KXLU is yet ANOTHER college station that had a xian station cranking up their transmitter and interfering with the signal. Took literally years before the FCC finally did the right thing.
Of course, the other station accused KXLU of being "intolerant."
There's a "Christian Talk" radio station in my area that has some barely-hinged nutcase preaching in the evening. He finds some way to bring up pornography in seemingly every sermon, and gets weirdly creepy anytime he gets on the subject of women. You could make a legendary break-out style recording of his out of context quotes though - stuff like "You ever just feel like you need to punch someone in the laundry matt?"

Question for everyone: Apart from WFMU, what NYC regional radio stations do y'all listen to for Alternative & Indie Rock?
I'm delighted to learn that The Strokes have a new song out, but I have not heard it on the radio around here 😭
