I saw it in the archive. I just don't remember hearing it there. Maybe Ken or someone else played excerpts from the same interviews. I remember an afternoon DJ being thoroughly jazzed about him.
It was a late night fill-in B4 he was on the schedule. I hadn't heard his show or heard of Jim E. Thought it was a straight interview with some pretentious tool, and had it turned down, half listening while working. All of a sudden what he was saying kicked in, and I went down a Jim E rabbit hole.
Love it when that happens. FMU rabbit holes are the best.

Hi from Holland:
Dan, not to plug another radio station, but the French public radio station FIP is great - and they would play something like Sylvie Vartan for sure. It's like WFMU but with public funding -- "All music programming is hand-picked by a small team of curators, who create three-hour blocks of music. They abide by a few rules, most notably paying close attention to how tracks transition from one to the other, across genres and styles, and especially making sure that a song is never played twice in a 48-hour window. FIP broadcasts around 16,000 artists and 44,000 different songs every year; 85% of its programming comes from independent labels." (Copied from Wikipedia)

Goooood morning there now everybody! Hey it’s Dan. Hi Dan!
The band took three years to release the follow-up to Too-Rye-Ay and pop audicence's tastes changed vastly from 1982 to 1985 as the "MTV sound" took over the charts. The fact that Kevin Rowland decided that the album shouldn't have a single didn't help.

@ SQUINTS. Maybe DAN will play FRANK ZAPPA's "DANCIN' FOOL" to get you up and boppin' this morning. Now that RUGBY 7's is part of the Olympic Games sports calendar, are you excited to watch it? Unbeknownst to many folks, there will be 6-man flag football at the 2028 Olympics in LA in 2028. And NFL players are eligible to participate! No pads, I think.
From what I can remember, Rowland was wanting to give audiences an album focused experience, but the days when you could make an album project and count on AOR stations to sell it to the public were long gone by 1985.

Hi from Holland: Dan, not to plug another radio station, but the French public radio station FIP is great - and they would play something like Sylvie Vartan for sure.

The band took three years to release the follow-up to Too-Rye-Ay and pop audicence's tastes changed vastly from 1982 to 1985 as the "MTV sound" took over the charts. The fact that Kevin Rowland decided that the album shouldn't have a single didn't help.radioronan: Good Friday morning Dan, Lite brigade, glisteners!
