Ingrid Laubrock is German. Friday in German is "Freitag." My childhood dentist was a fellow named Freitag. In the New York Times' obituary for Pedro Pietri, his poem "Puerto Rican Obituary" is described as
"An epic poem published in 1973 that sketched the lives of five Puerto Ricans who came to the United States with dreams that remained unfulfilled. By turns angry, heartbreaking and hopeful, it was embraced by young Puerto Ricans, who were imbued with a sense of pride and nationalism."
MY family has a dentist story. As a child we went to a dentist under the elevated train in Brooklyn, dark office, train noise every few minutes. His name was Dr Scheer.
He didn't believe in using anesthesia on drilling. One day he was drilling my sister's teeth, and she bit him and wouldn't let go. We called him Scheer Agony...
Holy crap I was just talking about Pedro Pietri with fellow staff at a poetry journal I volunteer at. Like, Wednesday. It's not often he comes up in conversation lmfao

Liquid Smoke were a Long Island, New York group that consisted of Sandy Pantaleo (lead vocals), Vince Fersak (guitar), Ben Ninnman (keyboards), Mike Archuleta (bass), and Chas Kimbrell (drums).
The group formed while students at ECU and signed with Avco Embassy in 1969, releasing their lone lp in early 1970 which was produced by Vinny Testa who also produced Frigid Pink and co-produced with Shadow Morton the Merchants Of Dream’s 1968 psych masterpiece “Strange Night Voyage”.
The group’s killer psych track “Lookin’ For Tomorrow” was the highlight of Peruvian band Gerardo Manuel & El Humo’s debut lp “Apocallypsis”. The album also includes their single “I, Who Have Nothing” a cover of the Ben E. King hit which was also covered earlier by Terry Knight And The Pack (see December 21, 2009 post) and later by Tom Jones and Sylvester.
