I don't even wanna know what my ConEd bill is gonna look like but I need to keep my work tower cool. This giant workhorse has no fewer than 12 fans including the fans on the video card, and liquid cooling, but all of my temp readings are still in the yellow zone inching into red. Last night I had to quit all of my other applications before running a game just to keep temps normal.

Feeling you on this. This oldish house my apartment is has power limitations. Waiting now for the landlord family to work with me to see why we don't have power in the bathroom and half my home office room. This will be the 3rd time during this 2 day heatwave.
Yup, but it's also upgradeable and has enough room to actually do upgrades in. Metal and glass case with perforations on all of the metal sides. Yes, I'm keeping it as clean as possible to maximize airflow, But it still throws enough heat where I can't touch the top of the case with my hands where the primary heat sink is installed. Video card has its own heat sink, and I once gave myself a VERY gnarly 3rd degree burn, as in skin stuck, when I made the mistake of touching an exposed heatsink on a video card a few machines ago. Took years for the scars to fade. Note to self; do NOT touch a video card when doing a benchmark.
Sorry to hear -- I truly hope that the house is up to code and/or they are not playing funny games with ConEd or attempting their own rewiring or forcing circuit breakers.
Pretty much. At least thank G-d my building does its power by the books (larger building, ConEd installed automatic readers in the basement for every unit). My biggest fear is that my ancient fridge/freezer's compressor won't be able to take it.

On a brighter note, NYC is supposed to have a major thunderstorm tonight, which hopefully will break some of the heat and give all the blossoming trees a boost -- a lot of them are "behind" due to that weird little cold snap we had a few weeks ago. There's nothing more beautiful than the smell of linden blossoms after a thunderstorm, mixed with the smell of clean, steaming concrete. It instantly brings back memories of my late great Aun't place in the Bronx.
Good Lord. Sorry you are dealing with that. This heat wave right after a cold snap has been rough on the grid out here--ConEd trucks on every other corner it seems, along with random commercial gas leak emergencies and electrical repairs at the block by block level. As in a few of my local bodegas/coffee shops could neither run their grills due to the gas issue, AND had to toss stock due to wonky electrical stuff messing up their coolers.

Also, quick gig headsup -- David, what is the events email again for WFMU? Anyway, on May 27th, my friend Sal Cataldi and his outfit, Spaghetti Eastern, will be playing at Bar Freda in Ridgewood at 930 PM. As it's a school night it is very unlikely that I can attend, but I encourage anyone who can to go. His sets are ALWAYS amazing and he's an incredibly talented musician.
And yeah, keep the pupper cool! My neighbor has an obese pitbull who apparently refuses to come out of the bathtub (coolest part of her apartment) and when I ran into them after coming back from walksies (the dog, AND me on my way back from the PO) the dog didn't want to go back into the elevator and wanted to just pancake on the cool marble tiles in our lobby.

Anyway Starfinder is and was straightedge and already was keeping a small menagerie of exotic animals in their dorm room, including a freaking HUGE iguana (like a meter long) that was chill with being on a leash when taken outdoors when it was warm enough and a few ferrets. I used to have a picture, ages ago, from the school newspaper that showed him working at a wildlife rehab place during break that was affiliated with our uni -- it was where they treated and re-homed species that were illegal in the US and were seized by customs/the cops/etc. In that pic he was holding a freaking fully-grown armored pangolin that was at least a meter long including its tail.
