Speaking of time, DJGG, you saw my IG post. I fudged the UTC time by an hour, my mistake.

@DJ GeorgyGirl -- doing great, listening with bestie right now :) thanks for asking! we're bringing the show to a friend's house on our bluetooth speaker. 🎶
It will always be a bit odd to me that two of glam's biggest stars began with folk. The ethos and aesthetics of those genres just feel like they should be far apart (although maybe I'm thinking too much of American folk.)

The one where I saw him play with Holy Holy on David Bowie's birthday when he called Bowie on his phone and held it up to the audience and we all sang "Happy Birthday " to Bowie! And then Bowie passed two days later :(- which would make that his last "public performance"- Such a special night. And I read recently in an interview with Tony Visconti, that Bowie had planned to make a special appearance that night, but couldn't because he was too sick.

Hi Candy!!!! All streams!
Another killer tune!! This is bringing me back to Bowie fest we have here in Austin every year near Bowie's birthday! My friend DJ's it at Drinks Lounge and always a blast!!⚡🙇♂️
A lot of American folkies in the '60s (well, perhaps the audience moreso than the actual artists) were militantly obsessed with authenticity and meaningful messaging and thought rock music was valid and overly commercial, and then you have glam rock, which actively leans into the glamour and artiface of rock music.
I went to the shrine in Brixton the weekend after he passed, and realised that I was wearing a ring with a black star on it ... of course, I left it there <3
I think with Bowie and Bolan, that they were trying on different personas according to trends, before they found the confidence to be themselves - and then glam began :-) So mod, folkie, hippie, etc

J in LA:
Was just talking with my boy earlier who studying in Germany. He told me that he is going to Berlin this weekend and is going to visit Bowies home there. I was quite impressed as he is more of a death metal listener
I haven't gotten around to all of his more recent albums, but I feel like Tonight is the most forgettable. It was great that went out on a note as high as Blackstar though!
Young Americans I never got.
Diamond Dogs I think was the peak, but so many gems.
The sheer bonkersness of Scary Monsters another stand out.
Man Who Sold very over-looked, fully Ronsonised that one
Thank you, actually just after the lost year of COVID, I then lost my brother, mother, sister and auntie all within 30 months. Tough time for me but I had family to raise and a father to care for.
Scary Monsters is really great too. The Man Who... is a good one too. And I do kind of like Young Americans. It has a couple of great tracks. But a soul singer Bowie is not.
Weird pairings can be beneficial, tho. I got to see and actually meet Gang of Four here in NJ when they were opening for Public Enemy at Madison Square Garden & could only play shows 20 miles beyond Manhattan, so they played a tiny bar in Passaic.
Marc Bolan references John Lennon here and The Who later referenced T. Rex in "You Better You Bet." I wonder if you could get a Flange episode by chaining together references to other artists.
In the case of The Beastie Boys/Madonna pairing, apparently the explanation was that Madonna liked The Beasties and liked antagonizing audiences, so it was killing two birds with one stone.

just relaying to my buddy how nice it is to read all of the beautiful comments and stories and facts in the chat room :D
As for the regular yellow common cheese types:"Boerenkaas" (bit fatter, fuller of taste), Old Amsterdam (bad name good taste, salt crystals in the cheese), other cheeses I like: Tynjetaler (bit like emmentaler but friesian) and Twentse Bunkerkaas is really great.
Ooooh, splendid. I may nibble all that fresh basil first.

I'd like to say that setlist is incorrect, in that, halfway through Rosalie, Phil nodded at Scott and they went into Whiskey in the Jar :-)
My first concert was watching a band led by a guy with a goatee and a flame pattern blazer play "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)" at a water park. I think your experience beats mine.

DJ GeorgyGirl:
I'm trying to put my finger on what I meant by a "Visconti Sound" - I think it's a certain tonal quality. I don't quite have the words for it.
🍷♥
5:19pm
J in LA:
Many years back I had a friend who didn't care much for Bowie. Of course he only knew the post 80's material. I gave him Hunky Dory and TMTSTW......needles to say, he never looked back
I recall back in the night, a pal turned me onto Bowie one night at his place. 1972? He had both "Hunky Dory" and "Man Who Sold the World." Two early albums, very different. We knew he was going to be around. Oh yeah.
They had a decent audience of a few dozen sunburned tourists near the food court. The singer looked to be in his late 30s or 40s. Despite the era, he didn't do the frosted tips hairstyle though, just the standard shoulder length rocker hair.
This was the track that I was listening to, with headphones on, singing at the top of my lungs, when my ex came running into the room dripping wet from the shower, deeply concerned, and said: "My God! I thought you were dying! All I could hear in the shower were howls of pain!" Lol
I guess around the time this song was released Bolan stopped communicating with John Peel (did he congratulate Marc regarding its chart success or something), sadly. Peel decided never to get close with people whose music he loved. Well no love lost for T-Rex’s Get It On (“ I couldn’t wait to get it off” said Peel on the air)
Well, Peel’s taste in music was one thing but losing Bolan as a personal friend didn’t exactly improve matters between them, I guess there was a phone call for instance where Peel could hear Bolan whispering in the background “tell him I am not here”, which among other signs of cutting contact apparently upset him a lot.

5:38pm
Paper Kosmonaut:
Regarding that 'Visconti Sound' - There's something dark, warm, broody in the lower registers in most songs. The sound also has something urgent and direct.
A Google search tells me: "Note: This song is not associated with the soundtrack of the 1982 animated film "The Last Unicorn," which was scored by Jimmy Webb and performed by America" :-)
5:59pm
Honski de Boiski Cha Cha:
Due to bathroom renovation there’s no water in my place so whether it’s a number two, washing up or a shower everything takes place at the construction container on my yard. So everyday chores are difficult and time consuming which is why I missed the whole show last week, but I so glad today I managed to get one and half hours of this bliss!

It will always be a bit odd to me that two of glam's biggest stars began with folk. The ethos and aesthetics of those genres just feel like they should be far apart (although maybe I'm thinking too much of American folk.)Elizabeth:

The one where I saw him play with Holy Holy on David Bowie's birthday when he called Bowie on his phone and held it up to the audience and we all sang "Happy Birthday " to Bowie! A lot of American folkies in the '60s (well, perhaps the audience moreso than the actual artists) were militantly obsessed with authenticity and meaningful messaging and thought rock music was valid and overly commercial, and then you have glam rock, which actively leans into the glamour and artiface of rock music.DJ GeorgyGirl:

I guess around the time this song was released Bolan stopped communicating with John Peel (did he congratulate Marc regarding its chart success or something), sadly. Peel decided never to get close with people whose music he loved. Well no love lost for T-Rex’s Get It On (“ I couldn’t wait to get it off” said Peel on the air)DJ GeorgyGirl:

↳ DJ GeorgyGirl @5:30
Well, Peel’s taste in music was one thing but losing Bolan as a personal friend didn’t exactly improve matters between them, I guess there was a phone call for instance where Peel could hear Bolan whispering in the background “tell him I am not here”, which among other signs of cutting contact apparently upset him a lot.DJ GeorgyGirl:
↳ Bandit @5:34
