Spent a great couple-three hours sitting outside with staticky FMU reception and LOTS AND LOTS of sparrow shouting. A couple of helicopters didn't even ruin it. Good soundscape.

Does anyone (Henry) know of a boombox with AM/FM, CD player, and MOST IMPORTANT an FM mono setting? Why is it so hard to find an FM mono setting?!

Webhamster Henry:
Once I had to summon my Junior High Spanish to tell the guy sitting next to me about cell phones.
Ship to shore telephony used to be a good eavesdropping activity on Nantucket back in the day using this radio. Which is about 10 feet from me right now.
I'm thinking of cobbling something together with a C. Crane portable, but then I'd need a speaker it could connect to from a 1/8" out jack, and those also seem to be getting harder to find.
Check your local Five Below store or other outlet of old hardware. I like getting bluetooth speakers and customizing them with new bodies and speakers. Some of them have Aux Ins ... which I have used as external speakers.

BTW, I have a SUbvert.fm account and intend to put up my more drone-y stuff there, a lot of which now involves recordings from my new Piezos and Zoom H4 recorder. [ that's the OHITF connection... ]
Nice. I'm mainly looking for a better way to aim WFMU out my bathroom window into the backyard. The boomboxes we've had never have an FM mono setting. But those C. Crane radios are pretty sweet.

had to have an MRI last week, the technician was concerned if i could handle loud noises, etc. (which they always ask) -- i had to tell her that i actually LOVE all the "noise," and find the experience quite meditative -- and how i wondered about how many experimental/electronic/sound artists WISHED they could sound like this!
