Oh hurrah...another year, another Met Gala! Whatever will Kim Kardashian be wearing this year?!?! Fun fact, that the Costume Institute is the only part of the Met that DOESN'T get taxpayer funding, however they do benefit from a number of wealthy benefactors during the year. And they do great work! That is not to be denied...however....Conde Nast and Anna Wintour have turned this event into a media cash cow promoting Conde Nast, who recycle footage of the Gala to fill their own coffers. For perspective, a table at the Gala used to cost 50$ Now it costs $100,000 for a single ticket.

Telehealth have released a new video for “Donor Country (A gOoD cAuSe).” The clip features “an unreal new talent show competition” featuring an assortment of witches, hedge trimming artists, magicians, “air” DJs, and bubblegum blowers all vying for their 15 minutes of fame. The visual was directed by Eleanor Petry, and the song is available today on all streaming services. The track is off the band’s forthcoming album Green World Image, available May 15th, via Sub Pop Records. The band kick off their tour on April 26th in Cleveland, OH.
Telehealth on the song and its accompanying visual: “‘Donor Country (A gOoD cAuSe)’ examines how modern philanthropy blurs survival, cultural status, and compromise. In the absurd American financial landscape where nearly every day to day activity relies on some form of patronage, the song sits in a gray space, tracing the interdependence between funding that keeps life (and art!) afloat while quietly shaping their limits, turning generosity into both necessity and a performance.

Policy
Merge Records
2015
The first solo album from Will Butler, Arcade Fire member and younger brother of Win, Policy feels very much like an attempt to recapture some of the happy-accidental spontaneity that defined that band’s early years. As a utility-player multi-instrumentalist, Will’s musical presence isn’t always easy to parse from Arcade Fire’s orchestro-rock onslaught. But onstage, he’s the physical embodiment of the band’s music—deceptively mild-mannered, yet capable of going off without warning. Not surprisingly, his debut solo album makes a virtue of that instability. I quite love this song, it's part nervous twitch, part quiet accusation...

Armed with drum machines, synthesizers, and a Telecaster, they capture the insolence and energy of punk rock, combine them with pop melodies and layers of raw electronica, to create a disenchanted yet triumphant post-punk sound. After 200 concerts in France and Europe, and three EPs, including "Modern Idol" released in October 2010, rumor has it that Johnny Boy has returned to composing. When will the album be released? Well, it was 2015. In case you were wondering.

"My name is Ibiwunmi aka Wunmi I am a singer, songwriter, performer and fashion designer. Born in London, and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. My work draws from a childhood steeped in the sounds, style and ethics of Afrobeat. As a teen in London, soul, rare grooves, acid jazz/funk, broken beat and drum and bass would further influence my sensibility.
My first recordings were as featured artist on the tracks of some of House music's reigning producers: Osunlade, M.A.W., Bugz in the Attic, Pasta Boys-- My first songwriting credits were in collaboration with the legendary Roy Ayres. My work was a major catalyst in bringing Afrobeat and the work of Fela Kuti into the mainstream in America, participating on such projects as Red Hot and Riot, and New York’s epic Jump n Funk parties. My first solo album, A.L.A. (African Living Abroad), was lauded by Giles Peterson as 'an essential release from a unique artist'."

Fun Protestants

WKD INFUSED BLOOD

2026
I'm so glad I found this. So glad. Fun Protestants, made up of Mish Thoburn and Cameron Clarke, say they sample "colloquial Northern Irish soundscape like the Orange marches, protests, Lambeg drums, the iconic 'NO SURRENDER WOMAN', and the rides at the Planet Fun".
Formed in early 2024, they hit the scene with sold out shows in Belfast's Accidental Theatre and the Black Box.
Elsewhere, they performed at Electric Picnic’s experimental stage Brutopolis both in 2024 and 2025. Their last year standout shows included Limerick’s Feile na Greine, Sligo’s Cairde Festival, and Dublin's underground rave gig under the M50 motorway. Anti-capitalist, anti-racist, but certainly not anti-craic is what Fun Protestants is all about. A new musical duo from Belfast is exploring what identity really is in post-conflict Northern Ireland through, what they describe as “some bangin’ tunes and surrealist storytelling”.
This track makes my week. What a driver. We don't hate art. We hate rich people using art to launder money, avoid paying taxes, and hoarding what belongs to the public.

The track united generations in disgust and brought people together in their united hatred of Billionaire and Penis Headed Sad Man Jeff Bezos. From outer space, to paying ridiculous sums of money so he could sneak into the back door of the Met Gala...he's winning life! Fun fact: Protestors hid hundreds of small bottles filled with "a liquid that could be urine" and depicting Bezos' face...a jab at how Amazon employees frequently resort to using "piss bottles" to navigate inhumane working conditions that do not allow for bio breaks...which is...dystopian to the max.

The Acid Kids
The Acid Kids
2026
Markus Nikolaus does things differently. There is a notion of radicality and non-conformity in his work. And it leads to decisions that seem totally contrarian to common music market sense—driven by feeling rather than reason. The scope and release process of The Acid Kids LP aren‘t the only oddities surrounding it, but also: Who is the performing artist? Is it Markus Nikolaus? Markus Nikolaus & The Acid Kids? Or HARTES PORZELLAN? All these names floated around in the past. Maybe one can attribute this shapeshifting attitude to an urge of rebellion, but more likely, it‘s due to the album‘s constant evolution. The Acid Kids LP comes with a caveat: its massive scope, both in mere length and sonic influences, makes the album highly volatile and unpredictable. Brute-forcing your way into its world is impossible; sitting here and listening to it back-to-back is quite exhausting, never knowing what’s waiting around the corner. It’s like a feverish rush, disorienting and meandering. You have to let it wash you away; fighting the current is futile.

That being said, they are clearly not the same song at all, so why compare?

Harvest / Pink Flag
1979
"154 is Wire's 3rd studio album, released in 1979 on EMI imprint Harvest Records in the UK and Europe and Warner Bros. Records in America. Branching out even further from the minimalist punk rock style of their earlier work, 154 is considered a progression of the sounds displayed on Wire's previous album Chairs Missing, with the group experimenting with slower tempos, fuller song structures and a more prominent use of guitar effects, synthesizers and electronics. ....................... The album is so named because the band had played 154 gigs in their career at the time of the album's release. The unusual title of the track "Map Ref 41°N 93°W" was based on a guess of the centre of the American Midwest by bassist and singer Graham Lewis; the location of these coordinates is coincidentally close to Centerville, Iowa. ....................... Following the album's release, a falling out with the band's record label, EMI, as well as creative differences led to their breaking up in 1980, making 154 the band's last album up until their eventual reunion in 1985 and subsequent release of The Ideal Copy in 1987."
Guerre Froide
Erasatz
Untitled [Self-Titled]
Stechak / Born Bad Records
1981 / 2026
[Translated from the French Wikipedia] "Guerre froide is a French cold wave band from Amiens, formed in 1980. ...................... Like a few French bands that appeared at the dawn of the 1980s, Guerre froide was immediately part of a post-punk / cold wave movement. Quickly, the band was able to impose its repetitive and hypnotic musical atmosphere, sometimes aggressive, sometimes haunting, on which the vocals come to put lyrics imbued with visions that are both existential and poetic, crossed by social and even political criticisms. .................... From the beginning, for its public performances, Guerre froide has chosen to combine its minimalist musical universe with the projection of still or moving images. .................. Going from 4 to 5 members, the group released a 45 rpm EP 4 tracks a few months before stopping after two years of existence. "Demain Berlin", a timed hit, ensured a posthumous consecration to the Cold War well beyond France, in Europe but also internationally. ..................... This enduring notoriety led two of the band's founding members to reform the band in April 2006, after a long breakup and several side projects (Pour l'Exemple le plus connu), with the help of a new bassist. The avowed goal was to be able to assume creative ambitions made possible at last thanks to the evolution of technologies, while preserving the style and musical approach of the Cold War. ................... The atmosphere has gained in melancholy, the words are even sharper. An album linking the past and the present, Angoisses et Divertissement, was released in May 2007 on the Brouillard Definitive label. Cold War has since played regular concerts and participated in a few festivals. A second, more ambitious album, Abrutir les masses, was released in May 2010, also on the Brouillard definitive label. It has received several rave reviews. .................. Since the re-formation, the band has performed regularly in concert in France and Europe. ................. The band appears as part of the exhibitions dedicated to "Modern Young People" and selected on the double CD published by the Naïve label as well as on the LP published by the Born Bad Records label. ................. We hear a passage of the song Berlin 81 in the film Bye Bye Blondie released in 2012 and directed by Virginie Despentes. ..................... Their album Avant-dernière pensée was released in May 2014"

Billy Fuller

Fragments
Invada Records
2026
"Billy Fuller is a name you should know. It should be said in the same sentences as Hook/Gallop/Weymouth. His playing has been a vital part in music by such luminaries as Robert Plant, Massive Attack, Alicia Keys, Baxter Dury (Fuller’s contributions to the latter’s last album are some of his finest recorded works) and of course BEAK> the band he co-founded with Geoff Barrow and Matt Williams, and who he would go on to record four studio albums (two of which with Will Young who joined after Williams’ departure), a clutch of EPs and soundtracks. The music of BEAK> is often framed around Fuller’s multifaceted basslines where he drives the melody and arrangements. ................... Now we see Fuller fully stepping out of the group dynamic and releasing his debut solo album. Fragments is collected from compositions that Fuller has been working on for a number of years. With BEAK> having a break in activity Fuller revisited these pieces he’d written and started to feel like they all had a similarity in atmosphere and mood which has resulted in him putting them all together and presenting us with what feels like a really personal and intimate display of Fuller’s musical heart. ................ The first thing you notice when listening to Fragments is its delightful contradictions. Here is an album made of a multitude of stylistic choices yet it all hangs together so well with a beautiful cohesion. This means that the 70s industrial/synth-pop of opening track ‘Rummer’ seques easily into the addictively melodic John Carpenter post-rock of ‘Three Blind Mice’ whilst the sci-fi tidal swirl of ‘Pirate Ship’ melts seamlessly into the jaunty optimism of ‘Bonanza’" ................. Another of Fragments best features is in its run time. There are a full sixteen tracks to absorb with some pieces existing as brief interludes whilst others are allowed to stretch out and hypnotise with motorik repetition. You’ll find elements of such iconic cornerstones as Neu!, Can, Throbbing Gristle, The Velvet Underground, and obviously there will be moments that feel familiar to fans of BEAK>, but they are all used as a smaller cog in a much larger wheel which helps Fragments avoid the pitfalls of homage. ............... This is not an album made out of ego or artist narcissism. What it is is an album made by a really astute and intelligent songwriter who knows how to tap into core sensations such as joy, fear, laughter and deep emotional connection whilst never forgetting that the purpose of the work is to entertain. POP covered in psychedelic dust. Enjoy the trip…….." https://beak.bandcamp.com/album/fragments

Voka Gentle
The Creature
Domestic Bliss
The state51 Conspiracy
2026
Released Feb 6, 2026. "London trio Voka Gentle have been playing music together in some form “since the womb”, their guitarist, William J. Stokes tells me. Which might be why their latest album, Domestic Bliss, works so well. Composed of identical twin sisters Ellie and Imogen Mason, and William, Imogen’s husband, the band craft left-field, mercurial pop that’s as hard to box into a genre as it is easy to enjoy. ............ Recorded at London City University, where the band taught sound workshops in exchange for studio time, their latest LP is a tour-de-force in this synergistic mode of music-making, which yields some sporadically fun results. Domestic Bliss darts from fluid avant-psych to immersive field recordings and glitzy 80s pop, delivered with artfully melodic instincts. Perhaps most notable, though, is that it was nearly all recorded on a binaural head. ............... “We kind of became obsessed with it. A lot of the album was recorded with it, after Ollie, our drummer, managed to borrow one and it just sounded so good. A lot of them have faces on, but this didn’t. It was just a ball, annoyingly.” She says there aren’t too many of them still in existence: “No one knew how much it was actually worth. We just knew we couldn’t break it! ....................... Within minutes of hearing Voka Gentle’s music, or talking to them, there’s a sense that they’re a group organically committed to learning about and pushing the boundaries of recording and sound design. The band was formed in London after both Ellie and Imogen’s old band and William’s earlier project ended. Although they originally considered themselves a folk-trio, the group’s sound has changed a lot since then. “Our first stuff was quite layered and dense, but the instrumentation has changed throughout the projects. This album’s quite beat driven, quite repetitive and uses a lot of loops.” Ellie tells me. But they insist that resisting categorisation is key to Voka Gentle, which is less a band and more a “mindset” focused on being “intensely collaborative”, sharing creative authority and following “paths of curiosity”, even when they lead to the strangest places. ..................... Alongside Voka Gentle, William now writes about music, produces and is pursuing a music-related PhD at City University, while Ellie is the in-house engineer at Mute Records and a session musician for the likes of Paolo Nutini and Badly Drawn Boy, and Imogen is studying for an MA in Sound Art and releasing solo music under the moniker sm^sher. Sm^sher
Buyer's Lament
Pit Of Mine
Scrawl World
2024
"Electronic artist and one third of Voka Gentle, Imogen Mason's debut solo project sm^sher (pronounced Smasher) and first solo album pit of mine, release[d] on November 15th via Scrawl World Ltd. ..................... Debut single ‘beggars belief’, a partial homage to one of Mason’s key influences in this period, the late Mira Calix. Drawing inspiration from her track ‘Upiyano’, the single starts with a disjointed melodic loop of a piano-like sound. Mason on the single: “The lyrics speak to the confusion and anger around finding yourself in a situation that you never imagined would happen” ................... Inspired by the likes of Calix, Arthur Russell and Aldous Harding, as well as noisy birds, chalk pastel drawings, her footsteps on varied terrains, and her bandmates, pit of mine features songs lending themselves to pop structures with catchy melodies, while also exploring expansive experimental textures and soundscapes. Blending electronic beats with sampled found sounds and acoustic instruments such as piano, violin, and acoustic guitar, pit of mine is moody, introspective, and collaged, yet also at times strident, brash and confrontational. ....................... Birthed in the high desert of Taos, New Mexico, the forthcoming sm^sher album was pieced together during a creative residency Mason undertook in 2023. The artist and producer found herself surrounded by other creative minds on the residency from all disciplines and walks of life, living in community, with people such as celebrated filmmaker Tirtza Even and author Andrea Scrima as well as many others. She became increasingly inspired by the older residents in their 50s and 60s: their passionate approach to their work, their risk taking, their youthful energy and maverick lifestyles “I was able to give myself permission to embrace my age and relax for the first time in ages, to play, rest and start from the beginning again” .................. Before starting sm^sher, Mason found herself caring for a loved one battling addiction, dedicating herself to their recovery. Her forthcoming album delves into the emotional turmoil of losing her sense of self while caring for another and the struggle to reclaim it. “I didn’t comprehend it fully at the time, but the desire to support them took over my life,” Mason reflects. .................... Her pilgrimage to New Mexico was a chance to reclaim a sense of playfulness and curiosity after an enervating season. pit of mine captures a spirit of creative freedom, of Mason in solitude experimenting with sounds and skills with no external pressures. “I’m drawn to childlike, scrappy sounds, and many of my most treasured recordings are spontaneous field recordings of interesting sounds I encounter, either on my Tascam field recorder or on my phone,” Mason explains. “I also discovered a love for beat-making while making this record, using found sounds as well as recorded percussion and drum machines.” ...................... The sm^sher album, was started in New Mexico and finalised, produced and mixed in London and Stroud with the help of her Voka Gentle bandmates William J Stokes and sister Ellie Mason .................... sm^sher allowed Mason to delve deep into her emotions, providing a space to process grief and confront long-held feelings through a cathartic, no-holds-barred exploration of sound and song. The album addresses themes of grief, sadness, anger, addiction, love, resilience, hope, and freedom. It’s personal and minimal in some moments, while expansive and aggressive in others. “Each song represents another attempt to comprehend and honour my relationship with that person, to grasp my capacity for expression and make a statement of ownership—of myself and my experiences,” Mason explains." https://smsher.bandcamp.com/a

Released May 5, in advance of full-length Bingo! (released on 12 June) ............ "La Sécurité (Montréal/Tiohtià:ke) is a collective whose art punk is equal parts: jumpy beats, off-kilter arrangements, and minimalistic melodic hooks." ............ From Line Of Best Fit... "La Sécurité share new disco track, "Deny" ........ | Written by Kayla Sandiofrd ........ La Sécurité have released "Deny", the final single from their upcoming second album, Bingo!. .............. "Deny" follows previous singles "Snack City", "Detour", "Bingo", and "Ketchup". Speaking about the song, which is accompanied by a video directed by Béatrice Cuierrier-Legault, the band say: “Initially written in French and translated to English, the song deals with dysfunctional relationships and getting rid of burdens in your life. Standing up for yourself. This doesn't work for me; I'm out. The bass hook was stolen from Standard Emmanuel, Félix's solo project. ...................... Discussing the video concept, Cuierrier-Legault adds: “For the ‘Deny’ music video, I wanted to visually create tableaus for each character, based on different aesthetics, cantered around the concept of denial. Since La Sécurité is mainly composed of millennials, I wanted to highlight 90s and post-punk influences, but also the arrival of the internet and new digital creation methods. ....................... "The collective enjoys blending various aesthetics, genres, and styles, and often works through collage, both musically and in their visual identity, notably with Melissa’s 'scrapbooking' style collages for their vinyl records. Visually and creatively, it was only natural that their video would reflect them, that we would feel the collage, the many tableaus, interspersed with moments from their daily lives.” La Sécurité - Deny [Official Video]

Monarchie und Alltag
Welt-Rekord / EMI Electrola
1980
""Fehlfarben is a Neue Deutsche Welle music band from Düsseldorf, Germany, that was formed in 1979. Its founding members were Peter Hein (vocals), former member of the German punk band Mittagspause (English translation: "lunch break"), Thomas Schwebel (guitar, former member of Mittagspause, and German punk band S.Y.P.H.), Michael Kemner (bass, former member of 20 Colors, Mau Mau, DAF, YOU), Frank Fenstermacher (saxophone, later a member of Der Plan), Markus Oehlen and Uwe Bauer (drums, former Mittagspause, Materialschlacht). ....................... The band name is derived from the German word for the non-trump suits in card games - most notably "Skat".
....................... Fehlfarben was formed in 1979 out of members of the German punk band Mittagspause and other musicians from the Düsseldorf punk scene. Initially moving away from the Clash and Wire influenced punk of Mittagspause to experiment with ska, Fehlfarben settled into a sound perhaps most comparable to their English contemporaries Gang of Four. Signing a contract with the German subsidiary of EMI lost them their status as an underground band, but in 1980 they released their debut, Monarchie und Alltag (Monarchy and everyday life), an album recognized then and now as one of the most important German-language rock records. Despite its cultural impact, Monarchie und Alltag did not reach gold status in Germany until 2000." ................. For this particular song, the lyrics are by Gabi Delgado-López Gabriel, best known as singer and co-founder, with Robert Görl, of the German electronic band Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft."

Dream
Slovenly Recordings
2026
Released April 3, 2026. ... "Gentilesky, the powerhouse Italian-Turkish punk collective release their second full-length album, Dream, via Slovenly Recordings ................... Taking their name from the Baroque master Artemisia Gentileschi, the band bridges the gap between 17th-century subversive art and modern radical expression. Just as Gentileschi’s work reclaimed the female narrative through visceral, unflattering physical realities, Gentilesky utilizes a hard-edged sound to navigate the complexities of the current sociopolitical landscape. Three years after their debut on Hozac Records, Gentilesky returns with a sharper sonic profile. The band features veterans of the European underground, boasting members from Rippers, Undisco Kidd, and Sushicorner. While their debut explored broader artistic theories, Dream leans into a more muscular, rhythmic intensity, drawing a direct line from Gentileschi’s impact to contemporary figures with a visceral collection of work such as Nan Goldin, Jennifer Precious Finch & the late Kathy Acker." ................ Official words from the band's BC page: ------- "It’s 2026 and the world is coming to the end it deserves. In a post-world world, the soundtrack should be post-what-fucking-ever, and it needs to careen at light speed with piles upon piles of noise and tension. .................. What remains of Sardinia and Turkey? GENTILESKY is there, and there, and HERE, bonding over a common goal of survival. “Dream” is their second album, and its ferocity was carefully designed to stop you dead in your tracks, but it’s not like you have anywhere left to run anyway. The nightmare continues on Slovenly Recordings this Spring. Stick around for it... We need you more than you realize. ................... The Cravats

1980
he Cravats are an unfairly not very popular outside the UK when we talk about punk bands. Formed in 1977 by Robin Dallaway (vocals and guitar) John “Ethos” Yapp (drums) The Shend (Bass) and Martin Seys (guitar and vocals), they soon experimented with the less conventional and more musically creative part of the incipient punk movement. Later, Svor Naan(saxophonist) would join, who would end up giving a jazzy and experimental touch to a band that was influenced since its inception, like Malcom McLaren and the Sex pistols, from the anti-artistic Dada movement. In 1979 they started recording with John Peel, the first of several sessions of the famous Peel Sessions, and as we will see in the next interview with The Shend, John Peel and he werereally good friends. Their first full length came thanks to Small Wonder Records in 1980, the essential In Toytown. "here’s five people creating the sound and everybody knows what it should be, but each person will have their own view of it. Someone will come up with an initial idea but everyone else will know what they need to add to it to make it a Cravats song." - The Shend

Seth Sutton’s Useless Eaters fuses crude punk vigor with minimalist experimentalism. Founded in Memphis in 2008, its discography spans eight albums and seventeen EPs on seminal underground labels. After some time based in Berlin, Sutton revived the project in Oakland in 2022. A new release on Goodbye Boozy Records this fall marks a renewed chapter in their sonic and visual praxis. "I'd say the music is getting more aggressive with the current lineup because it's more of a solid unit than the band has been before. When I attempt to listen to a lot of current music, all I really hear is a bunch of babies talking about nothing on top of mediocre and played-out melodies. I think it's better to be aggressive and passionate than whiney and flaccid." And it IS aggressive, but danceable, and bitchy and HARD. Just how we like it here on the beach.

Northern Spy
2016
Cloud Becomes Your Hand are a Brooklyn-based band with a joyous, eclectic sound that recalls avant-prog, cartoon music, psychedelic indie pop, and myriad other styles. The group's tightly wound, unpredictable compositions often include violins, angular guitar riffs, bizarre voices, woodwinds, and bursts of noisy electronics. As fractured and eccentric as their songs are, they clearly exhibit a love for catchy pop hooks, as well as a childlike sense of wonder. The group was formed in 2010 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Stephe Cooper, who recorded a self-titled Cloud Becomes Your Hand cassette by himself. Edgy, twitchy, and psychedelic in an ants are crawling on my skin kinda way....you can't deny that fat synth bass and squiggly crazy guitar hooks...and the transition into motorik/King Gizz is pret-ty awesome.

From Washington, DC. One kinda nerdy guy and his DAW and synths making "noisy screamy mostly electronic pop music". It's ridiculous and amazing, playful and perfect for today's ADHD riddled society.

2017
DADAR are from Parma, Italy. Their BC synopsis is: "Discount rock all night long TUTUCIA TUTUCIA" True to their word, the 4 song EP from which this is drawn is "Name Your Price"... Which is a fantastic price! This song, like all true punk rock, seems to be drawn from a difficult & all-to-real, hard-lived experience, with all the withering contempt for the injustices therewithin... ie. Being sick of pasta in Italy?!! https://dadar.bandcamp.com/

Simply Saucer
Illegal Bodies
Cyborgs Revisited
Mole Sound Records / Cargo Records / In The Red Records
1974-5 / 1989+
"Emerging from the industrial city of Hamilton, Ontario in the 1970s, Simply Saucer created a distinct, original sound that was decidedly out of step with the current musical climate. The band played edgy rock & roll that was a combination of early punk pre-cursors (Velvets, Stooges, Modern Lovers), krautrock (Can, Neu, early Kraftwerk), and U.K. prog/psych (Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, Syd Barrett - both with and without Pink Floyd). ............ Simply Saucer's origins date back to 1972, when band frontman, guitar player/singer-songwriter Edgar Breau hooked up with five other avant-garde, record collecting musicians and began rehearsing in a Hamilton, ON warehouse. The original compositions were long, improvised jams played on empty bottles, audio generators, theremins, keyboards, sax, flute, electric guitars and drums. Besides Breau, bass player Kevin Christoff became the other perennial member of Simply Saucer. ............. They soon entered brothers Bob and Daniel Lanois's basement studio to record six songs. Alas, the Canadian music industry at the time was mired in mainstream convention that produced steady sales but little artistic vision. None would sign the quartet or release their recordings. By 1976, a nascent punk music scene was beginning to develop in London and New York and Toronto soon followed. A reinvigorated version of Simply Saucer, featuring ex-Teenage Head guitar player Steve Park, emerged and began gigging. They released the "She's A Dog" single on Pig Records in 1977 to great reviews. England's New Music Express awarded it "Pick Hit Single of the Week". .......... By 1979, Toronto's club scene had begun to dissipate and the individual members of the band began exploring new paths. Breau detuned his guitar ala John Fahey, sold all his electric gear and began a new solo career. Almost thirty years would pass before he would own an electric guitar or appear on stage with Simply Saucer. ............... It was years later before the general public and music journalists first became aware of the groundbreaking Lanois recording session. The six studio songs, combined with an explosive live set (performed in 1975 atop Hamilton's then new downtown shopping mall), were finally released in 1989 in a limited vinyl edition on Bruce Mowat's Mole Sound Recordings, entitled Cyborgs Revisited. An expanded version of this album was released on compact disc in 2003 by Hamilton's Sonic Unyon. .......... Critical acclaim for Simply Saucer mounted exponentially over the years, with prestigious publications like London Sunday Times and Pitchforkmedia printing rave reviews. In December 2005, the UK's UNCUT Magazine named Cyborgs Revisited one of the Top 20 re-releases that year, calling Breau a prophetic punk visionary. .............. The unusual history of the band and its penchant for resonating with younger audiences and bands kept the flame alive, inspiring a loyal, worldwide cult following. Requests from fans to reform the band continued to make their way to Breau until he was eventually persuaded to do a reunion in September, 2006. Soon afterwards, the band, with an invigorated line-up, was playing select gigs across North America, as well as taking part in the Terrastock Festival in Louisville KY, and the Scion Garage Fest in Portland, OR. .............. Amazingly, for a band that never released a full album while together, Simply Saucer garnered extraordinary prominence in music journalist Bob Mersereau's book The Top 100 Canadian Albums, placing thirty-sixth in the polling of music industry scions, musicians and critics. The "amazing story" of "the band that refused to die" is the subject of Weird Canada editor Jesse Locke's Simply Saucer book, as well as Toronto filmmaker Greg Bennett's upcoming documentary Low Profile: The Simply Saucer Story."

Released April 17. 2026. "Younge is Adrian Younge’s magnum opus: an orchestral album written from a hip hop producer’s perspective, and a hip hop record composed with the discipline of classical and cinematic music. Fusing cinematic orchestration with hip hop, it reframes orchestral composition not as nostalgia, but as a living, dynamic language. Recorded to tape, the music is emotionally charged, forward-thinking, and crafted for reinterpretation—every arrangement breathes, every silence matters." https://linearlabs.bandcamp.com/album/younge

2026
Brand New Pigeon!!! From Margate! Pigeons debut album, OUTTANATIONAL, is a thrilling collection of party songs without limits: think William Onyeabor in outer-space or early Hot Chip making nocturnal acrobat in a 70s New York loft. Building on a string of acclaimed EPs that have been playlists on 6 music and led to coveted live slots at UK festivals like Glastonbury, Pigeon have evolved out of Afro-disco territory into something moodier and more motor. It's an expansive record indebted to the power of the groove and questing to find the meaning of home, laced with heady krautrock, post-punk and punk-funk. I also get a heavy Jerry Harrison vibe here and that is great.
Pigeon are Falle Nioke (vocals, percussion), Graham Godfrey (drums), Josh Ludlow (bass, synth bass), Steve Pringle (keys, synths) and Tom Dream (Guitar).

Return To Sender
Return To Sender
Merge
2026
Fronted by London-born Nigerian singer Eno Williams, Ibibio Sound Machine is a clash of African and electronic elements inspired in equal measure by the golden era of West African funk, disco, and modern post-punk and electro. Evocative Nigerian poetic imagery set against an edgy Afro-Electro soundscape gives the band a unique space within the wave of modern Afrocentric sounds sweeping the globe. “Return to Sender” finds Ibibio Sound Machine in rare form, with singer Eno Williams threading the needle between the song’s organic, driving rhythm and cool synth backdrop, letting loose and achieving catharsis in the seeming clash, wresting triumph from a very real moment of pain.
Eno explains that “Return to Sender” was inspired by a car accident in which she felt the steering wheel literally jump out of her hands: “Reflecting on this afterwards, it felt, from the perspective of traditional Nigerian thinking, to be a spiritual attack by unseen forces. The phrase ‘return to sender’ is a common response to such an event, invoking the rejection of any evil spirits that may have been looking to cause harm. “
On “Return to Sender,” this personal story has a wider resonance, reading as both personal defiance and a reflection of the current moment. It also marks the first glimpse of new music to come, building on the band’s recent shift towards a more direct, club-focused sound that is increasingly immediate, physical, and rooted in the dancefloor.

Bi Bok Anlamadim
Bongo Joe
2026
With their new single “Bi Bok Anlamadım,” Lalalar take an ironic look at modern life’s velocity, the endless debt loop, and a creeping sense of existential fatigue. Set in a world where days blur into each other and labor feels increasingly abstract, the song poses a simple, unsettling question: are we actually moving forward, or just getting better at going nowhere?
A steady bassline holds the world together while juicy beats keep things moving. The guitar melody breathes under a noisy ambient sky, then suddenly lands on the dance floor in the final section — a collective release that quietly demands weird dance moves and turns frustration into motion.
“Bi Bok Anlamadım” captures the absurdity of our times through Lalalar’s signature sardonic lens — a song that makes you think, then makes you move. THIS SONG SLAPS.

An unpredictable, unboundaried outlet that Holman has described as “deeply therapeutic”, Baby Dave was introduced to the world via 2022’s ‘Monkey Brain’, before LP2 ‘Different Gravy’ arrived a year later. “I started Baby Dave in lockdown whilst in the throes of a mental breakdown,” he has explained, noting that writing for the project is something he needs to do for his mental wellbeing. “I have pretty severe ocd. It makes me do things I don’t want to do and think about things I don’t want to think about,” he notes. “It’s torturous. It’s exhausting. At times it’s hilarious. It makes absolutely no sense.”

Kneecap
Irish Goodbye (feat. Kaye Tempest)
Fenian
Heavenly
2026
Móglaí Bap has spoken at length about the personal origins of the song, tracing it back to unexpected footage of his family. I never meant to write a song about this. But someone sent my brother a documentary about my Dad in the 90s, when he was president of Conradh na Gaeilge. The film crew came to my house, and we were just kids doing our homework, messing around. We weren’t the kind of family who had films of ourselves when we were young, just photographs, so it was the first time I saw my Ma in a video. And she was happy.
"That had a profound effect on me, seeing her happy. I was so emotional seeing her like that. I had written a song about her before, called MAM, which came out in 2020. She was sick at the time with depression. The idea I had in my head with MAM was, if I wrote it, she’d hear it, and maybe she’d feel her worth, because when you suffer from depression, you can’t see your own value. At that time, we went for a walk, and I told her I had written a song for her, but that it wasn’t completely finished yet, so I’d wait until the next week to play it for her. But by then it was too late.
"Suicide is hard. And when someone is sick with depression and dies by suicide, it’s hard to remember the good moments. You get caught up in the dark times.
"Irish Goodbye is about the mundane things me and my Ma did together. I never realised it was the day to day stuff I would miss when she was gone; going for a walk in the park, her giving out to me or keeping me in line, offering me pieces of advice. It’s all the small things that you miss."

"Tall Dwarfs are a New Zealand rock band formed in 1981 by Chris Knox and Alec Bathgate, who helped pioneer the lo-fi style of rock music. The duo were former members of Toy Love. ................ The band lacked a drummer, but would use household objects and hand claps to act as percussion. Both members can play guitar, with 12 strings and bass guitar often heard on their records. Both can play organ as well, which has been utilised on some of their songs. The Casiotone is frequently used too, especially on live concerts. ................... Their debut was the EP Three Songs (1981), and for many years they released EPs only. The album Weeville (1990) was their first full-length album. They did, however, release a number of full-length compilations of their EPs, like Hello Cruel World and The Short and Sick of It. ................. In the liner notes to their album 3 EPs (1994) (released as a single CD, or as three vinyl EPs collected in one box), they asked for listeners' rhythm tracks: "Send us your idea of a great T.D. throb." The responses came from many countries and were used for the next album, Stumpy (1996). This album was credited to "International Tall Dwarfs." .................... Bands who have claimed to be influenced by the Tall Dwarfs include Guided by Voices, Jay Reatard, Superchunk, Elf Power, Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control. In 2005, they did a small number of concerts in the US, playing with the Olivia Tremor Control."
