Mick Jones was dismissed after some of the other members of group, particularly Joe Strummer, were convinced Jones had gotten too caught up in the rock star lifestyle and was no longer giving his full effort in The Clash. Mick Jones meanwhile had felt that he wasn't being given enough creative control in the group and was losing interest, so he was quick to start BAD once he was fired. There were rumors for a long time that the band's manager pushed for Mick Jones's removal as he felt Joe Strummer was the true star, but Paul Simonon denied this in recent years, claiming that while their manager was definitely closer to Strummer and had issues with Jones behavior, he still considered him an important element of the band and was surprised when the rest of the group outright booted him.

There were rumors for a long time that the band's manager pushed for Mick Jones's removal as he felt Joe Strummer was the true star, but Paul Simonon denied this in recent years, claiming that while their manager was definitely closer to Strummer and had issues with Jones behavior, he still considered him an important element of the band and was surprised when the rest of the group outright booted him.Tom from Stirling:
